Fantastic
I have to admit, I thought I was buying gravel and that was totally on me. I didn't read the description. At first I was puzzled as to how I was going to rinse this stuff. Then I remembered i just got some fruit protection bags in to keep micro wasps from stinging my fruit, so I lined a colander with a couple and poured the sand in. I also put the sand directly in one. They are super fine mesh. After a few rinses I realized I could have skipped the whole step. The stuff was clean right out of the bag. It is beautiful under water and the perfect background for my fancy blue rocks. I found no pieces that were not black. I definitely got ten pounds. Any cloudiness my filter took out in a couple of minutes. I am super happy with it. Now all I need is some plants and we'll see how happy they are.

Finer than I expected
I bought this for my betta tank. It’s the perfect amount for a 5 gallon tank. My only complaint is this is definitely not gravel sized grains. More like a sand. I did my first water change this morning and my siphon definitely picked up all the sand. So I’ll have to adjust accordingly.

Great! But….
Looks GREAT in my aquarium. However, before you put it in you need to rinse it (to make sure it doesn’t make your water cloudy) and it took about 5 or 6 rinses before I could see my hand in my 1 foot deep bucket. Love it when it’s rinsed, though! Just wish it came a little cleaner.

Leaked out
Well it was all fine but there was a massive tear and it all leaked out the bag and out the box. So I lost a bunch of substrate????

Research is important
I bought 2 bags for a 55 aquascape I am doing. They arrived ina few days but one bag had a hole in it, and the granual is pretty small. The bag says it is triple rinsed but habit I rinsed it again...another three times to get to the point I could see my hand an inch below the water. It does have a pretty shimmer under light. There is mixed in tan and gray particles. Which raised a question mark in my mind...it looked familiar. I do automotive painting and realized it looked like blasting sand. Sure enough I picked up a ba of Black Diamond Black blasting sand and gave us a rinse. (Only needed two verse AquaNatual tripled washed and my three washes) And set a small handful on a towel for comparison. Same granual size, same shimmer, same color, and same feel. BDBS is inert and safe for aquariums. So I picked up a bag of it to finish my aquascape. Easier to clean and exact same look.

Overall good purchase…
Was pretty cloudy when rinsing it out but didn’t take too long to get clean. Bag game with a small slit in it but only spilled probably 100ish grains. Overall coarseness was even. Only issue with color was some of the particles were a light brown rather than black but not many so it still looked good. Happy with it so far.

Sand not gravel
Buyer beware. If you’re looking for course “gravel” this product is not for you. I, however, was in the market for black SAND and this is exactly the product I was looking for! Absolutely stunning and beautiful substrate. For the price, unbeatable. Just like anything you put in your tank, this substrate should be washed even though it says it’s “triple washed” on the cover. This is not an issue for those with a little bit of patience. I simply put 2 10lb bags of this sand into a 5 gallon bucket and thoroughly rinsed it 3-4 times dumping the water and not paying attention to all the little floaty bits of substrate that washed away (I wanted the sand that sank anyway), and the result was crystal clear water and thoroughly cleaned sand/substrate. The entire process of washing took me 15-20 minutes max. For the quality, it’s worth it. This product is now ready to be placed into my aquarium. Absolutely stoked with it!

Sparkles under water
I bought this to use as substrate for my Axolotl. It does require ALOT of rinsing prior to use! Once you think you’ve rinsed it enough…go back and start over again! I rinsed wait t for hours till the water ran clear however 2 days after it being in my tank my water turned cloudy with a light milky oily residue on top! Apparently, this is normal and takes time to filter away and from what I’ve been told is not harmful to my Axolotl or to fish. Definitely worth the buy!

pretty sand!
I find this very pretty. So far, I love it. 1-2 mm sand perhaps but i definitely do not have 3-4 mm pieces. Which is perfectly fine by me. It does sparkle when my light hits it! Its black, with few lighter colored bits in it....but they are very few and are not an issue. Yes, it is magnetic! I tested that. But im not worried about it. yet. I will edit this down the road if it became a problem. Fast delivery. Bags were safe inside the boxes. All in all, its a great product thus far!

Got the wrong size bag
Paid for the 10lb bag - got the 7 pound bag which I used I the tank because I needed it for some plants that needed a substrate right then and did not have the time to fiddle with returning it/receiving proper product. Great product - just really needed the 10lbs I ordered.

Defective batch of sand with sharp barbs?
I really wanted to like that sand, i shopped around at least 2 months to find the perfect black substrate that wouldnt affect the chemistry of my tank and this one had high praises from the reviews, yet seems nobody encountered this issue yet.... I dont know if i got a defective batch, but mine had so many little spec of brown shards in it, it felt as a kitty went in there and shaked litter everywhere. Also as i was washing it there was a ton of those hard very sharp needlelike pieces. The product say natural, natural made of what?? Sea urchins ? These were hard and i couldnt break them, they felt/look like plastic. I have a lot of bottom dwellers including kuhli loaches. I specifically bought this for them because they LOVE digging in the sand, but i'd feel horrible if one of them were to impale themselves on one of those barbs, these little guys dont have scales and have soft skins. It's pretty sand if you dont get as much issues as i did, i was offered to replace it by sending back the bad bag, but honestly i will look for something else as this is really worrisome and im afraid to have a repeat scenario.
