mixed feelings

The lamps themselves look good and I would give them a 4/5 stars for their appearance. There are problems though and functionally I give them a 2/5 stars. Taking the average of these scores is how I came up with 3 stars. Due to the design, when assembled they fold over metal tabs to hold the mica shade in place. If they apply too much force they will dent the shades. I purchased 2 of these and one only had 2 dents which was fine but the other shade had over 10 dents in it from the pressure applied to fold the tabs. The bases are also easy to scratch and one of the lamp's base had a major scratch in it on arrival. I see other people have had issues with damage as well. Finally, the lamps do not emit much light due to the design. I rolled my eyes when I saw other people's comments on this but it is true. I usually like dim lighting, which sometimes annoys other people who stay with me, but these are almost too dark even for me. These would not be suitable for lighting a living room or a guest room where someone with poor eyesight would need them. Beware of this if that will be an issue for your intended use.

Lamp shade isn't glass

The lamp shade is definitely not mica. It is plastic and has an odd texture.

Poor optical characteristics

The build quality of the lamp is very good, but the lamp shade poorly designed. In a good mica lamp shade, the interior of the shade has a white undercoating that reflects most of the light downward onto the work surface. This lamp shade has no such coating, resulting in glare, coming thru the shade right at eye level and reduced illumination under the lamp. I have a couple of lamps with real mica shades and this shade looks and feels like a cheap plastic imitation.

Beautiful, well-made lamp.

Bought two of these to replace two nightstand lamps in the bedroom. They're beautiful, sturdy and very high quality. The mica glass isn't prone to discoloration like other lamps I've had in the past. Plan on buying a third shortly.
