Know the Difference Between Hydronic vs Anti-Scald TMV's Before Buying!

First off...what homeowner doesn't love using sharkbites over sweating pipes? Another great product from Cash Acme/Sharkbite fittings. So here's the deal on this 3/4" #24530 "White Cap" TMV. This is an "anti-scalding" TMV. That means it has a factory stop at 120 deg F max setting and range from 80-120 F. Don't ever expect the max setting 120 F will travel through your pipes and be 120 F at your faucets. This means on long runs, multiple floors or external wall piping (a design faux paus but still happens) you're gonna have lukewarm/semi-hot water at your taps. Expect an average 10-15+ F deg drop at your taps especially in snowy winter locations. Anti-scald has it's purpose if you have a code or commercial liability or worried about small children in the home. But let me tell you that you will be disappointed after installing this and expecting to have really hot water afterwards or the ability to turn it up at will. A single floor 1-2 zones short runs and you may be able to make it happen. But realize you will have no ability to crank up the heat on the water regardless of your boiler/furnace or water tank aquastat settings will not override the TMV. This TMV down regulates to 120 F out of the valve exit point period. If you want your tap to reach a true 120+ F...you need a hydronic TMV. Then you'll have the ability to throttle your temp above 120 F (125 -130 F) needed to overcome the friction and long run heat loss will give you the true 120 F temp at your taps. If you want or need a true anti-scald below 120 F at the taps...stick with the "white cap." If you want the luxury to reach over 110 F at your taps...buy this "red cap" TMV here instead (a hydronic TMV fully adjustable from 80-176 F deg range. It is 100% interchangeable and same thread and dims if you wanna try the white cap first and swap it out later. A 25 minute changeover. Pricing is around same for either TMV. SharkBite 24867 Hydronic Mixing Valve 3/4 Inch SharkBite LF, Push-to-Connect, PEX, Copper, CPVC Bottom line: the white cap TMV and you're prob looking at 105-110 F (max) at your taps. Use the red cap TMV and you can adjust to whatever you want based upon your home plumbing zone runs. "White cap" and you can't go any higher. "Red cap" and you can always go above or below 120 F since it has a far greater high-limit range of useability at 80-176 F.

Low output flow without ideal input conditions.

Great product if you're on city water and supplying a sink. I tried this on a well system 80-100psi input and supplied an outdoor hose. I wanted to use softened warm water to wash cars and windows. The stream wouldn't even reach the bottom of the second story windows. The mechanism reduces flow to regulate temperature instead of maximizing hot water and adding cool until it is the correct temperature. We solved this with a return, two quarter turn valves, and a phone call before each rare use to get the temp right.

Worked for 4 hours. Would not mix hot water. Only cold. adjusted both ways no change in temp. The tool is a joke spend more money
