Durable

The large Pond Boss pumps last forever. I bang those things around quite a bit. The only part that wears out a bit is the cover. You have to get the debris off or the suction eventually caves it in a bit. But, it goes a couple years before that starts to happen.

Good strong pump that moves a lot of water. Not for locations where it can get clogged up with debris.

I'd say this thing pumps a little over 5,000 GPH. It's just what I needed for my waterfall. Unfortunately, there are lots of trees and shrubbery around the waterfall meaning lots of debris ends up in it. Subsequently, his debris ends up down in the well where the pump is. The pump clogs up and my waterfall volume slows down. The pump impeller itself is fine. The grid around it is what gets clogged up. I have to pull the pump up out of the well about once every week or so to clean it up to get my waterfall flowing again. (Yeah, there's that much debris.) It's a good pump with plenty of power and it pumps plenty of water. It just doesn't fit my particular application. If you want to put this someplace where it won't get clogged up with debris then I'm sure you will be more than pleased. In all fairness, all pumps of this design would have this same issue. The solution I'm implementing soon is to use a powerful external pool filter pump to run my waterfall. It will have a debris basket that will catch the debris that I can easily clean out.

when the flow slows it is an easy matter to spray the mesh bag clean and full ...

We have had this pump for 2 years now. It has lasted two times longer than any pump we have tried and is still going strong. We raise ducks and have a small (3500 gal.) pond. Believe me, 32 ducks make a pump work much harder than a pond full of koi. This pump has a very strong flow, which I suppose is due, in part, to the impeller design. The impeller is heavy plastic with multiple curved veins. We have had several of the pumps by Beckett and the thin, fragile 2 vein impeller only lasts one season. The mesh bag is a pump saver. Small feathers and some silt will pass through the mesh, but pump-killing twigs and larger items are stopped by the bag. As another reviewer mentioned, when the flow slows it is an easy matter to spray the mesh bag clean and full flow is restored. All pumps require some care and maintenance. This pump has required nothing more than an occasional cleaning. The Pond Boss PW5000 has been the longest lasting of all the pumps we have used over the years.

Great Pump!

The Pond Boss Waterfall Pump, 5000 GPH is terrific- that is the pump it's self. I have plenty of experience with pond pumps, and it didn't take long to figure out the water slow -down/ blockage problem. The net supplied with the pump has holes way too small to accommodate a large pond. It just clogged up way too fast with debris that should easily pass through the pump. Easy solution- just use a different cover net with larger holes. At first the pump slowed down considerably after a couple of days. I'd hose it off and a few days later, the same problem. After changing to a larger-holed net the pump has been running all summer without any noticeable drop in water pressure. For the price, it is a great buy!

Pump Flow is low and died in a year

This pump started out working just fine in our fountain. I noticed the flow had been slowly decreasing over a few months but thought it was just clogging a filter. Filter turns out to be clean and the pump now puts out barely any water. Disappointed.

Great pump.

Truly the "Boss" pump! I built a new pond downhill from my existing one and created waterfalls between with this pump. Very powerful! I just installed so I'm still getting the quirks out of the system. I've got it in a filter box so it's doing double duty as a waterfall pump and filter set up. It's a little overpowered for my set up but it makes my falls look great!

Worked Good While it Worked

Worked great for about a month then stopped working. Pump was being used to circulate water in a holding tank then just stopped under the same operating conditions as before and wont come back on.
