Works great for engraving hard metals
I have a CNC machine that I've been using to do several engravings (maybe I'll post a video of this in action) and was struggling with the set of engraving bits I bought specifically for a dremel. It was a kit of engraving bits that I also got on Amazon so I thought that was really all I needed and boy was I wrong. I thought maybe my dremel wasn't powerful enough to do the engravings since the results I was getting with the first set of engraving bits were turning out jagged and not very clean. It also wasn't cutting very deep into the metal, so when the machine was moving it would get caught on spots and I could see the bits bending. Not good. I was afraid they were going to break, but they didn't. They didn't really work well either. So I thought well, maybe these bits aren't intended for hard metals (even though they should have worked with hard metals, or maybe I just didn't look into it enough) so I ended up finding the Dremel 9929 Engraver Diamond Point Bit. From the second I put this on the dremel my results were 1000x better! I was getting very clean precision engravings in some pretty hard metal. Not sure exactly what the metal was, but I was engraving a tactical combat knife so it had to be some pretty hard metal and it engraved like a champ! I haven't engraved too much stuff, but it has already been miles better than any other engraving bit I've tried (I'm a newb to engraving though). Anyone doing some simple CNC machining with a dremel, this bit is a must. Next I want to try glass and stone. We'll see how that goes...

The ultimate penetrator
I have etched my name into every tool I own and most of them are hardened steel. Some tools are so hard I doubt it would work but at the right angle it has no issues of doing the job.

Hard to communicate with this seller
This engraver bit didn't fit in the first dremel I received - so I sent the drill bit back along with the dremel since I wasn't sure if the problem was the machine or the bit. A replacement for both pieces was sent quickly, which I appreciate. But the original diamond drill bit was returned along with the dremel - yet I'm being charged $17.00 for the bit. There's nothing I can do about it since I can't find any way to communicate with the seller. The replacement works fine.....I just had to pay for it twice. By the way, this bit is VERY fine for your smallest engraving.

Not For Engraving Tools
This diamond bit failed after I engraved my 7-character last name 1/4-inch high on 6 tools. I figured it was defective, so I sent it back to Dremel (Bosch in Arkansas) via 1st class mail (my mistake for not getting tracking). Two months later, contacted Dremel; rep was very nice, but could find no record of receiving my bit. So, I just purchased another and got same bad result (yes, I know doing the same thing twice and expecting a different result is the definition of crazy). I should have read the 1-star reviews that complain about performance on metal, and many about engraving on tools specifically. I reverted to the standard carbide tip, which worked fine for engraving my tools (as others have reported).

Great value
This has been the first engraver I have owned where I can actually see the letters I have engraved without having to repeatedly go over them. I bought the Diamond tip but so far haven’t had a need to use it. Powerful little tool. Sturdy. Far superior than the $20 engraver I bought from Lowe’s.

Don't that hard

Poor performance; less durable than original carbide tip.
Poor quality when compared with similar offering from Burgess/Record. After less than 40 minutes intermittent use on a small glass-engraving project, there was no traceable impression being left by the tip. I had to resort to the original carbide tip that came with the machine, in order to complete the job. As this is the only diamond tip for this engraver, I would strongly discourage purchase of the Dremel Engraver is you have any glassware to work on.

After 5 min of engraving the tool is useless.
After 5 min of engraving the tool is useless. I used the tool to engrave in metal but I was not even able to finish. Do not buy it waste of money
