The Hercules of Electric Fencing

We've had horses for generations and with my granddaughter our herd will reach its 100th anniversary! That means we've done a lot of fencing and a lot of horses. We used this product for the first time this summer on our side of our neighbor's stockwire fence. We have a very clever Welsh Cob gelding that was determined to take the stockwire fence down and move in with the milk cows across the way. This pony is unusual because he's not afraid of hot wire, and if he can figure a way to take it down, get under, through, or over he will. So, we decided to try this product, because of its size, strength, and visibility. We were very impressed with its strength, flexibility, visibility, and power. It carries a whack of a jolt. We used it for permanent hotwire fencing in a situation to safeguard a secondary weak fence (the neighbor's). I can't think of any product that would work better than it for this. Nothing is going through it, and that means a lot. Note: The little Houdini Welsh Cob gelding gave up after five minutes of the Mega Braid. We have another gelding who isn't afraid of hotwires too. He doesn't care if he gets shocked. He will take down a thin polyrope hotwire fence. The Mega Braid also works for him. I wish this product had been around when I was younger. We had 50 mules. We put temporary electric fencing around our hay stacks. Some of the mules figured it out. They would go about a 1/4 mile out in the pasture, run for the hotwire at a gallop, braying at the top of their voices, and take down the hotwire, knowing they would get a shock. But it was worth it. The fence was down. I am very sure a mule vs. Mega Braid would lose. We used electrobraid for the mares' temporary winter quarters this year, because electrobraid is extremely easy to take down and move, but we were very tempted to use this product instead. It certainly would have worked well for the mares too. Be use to use insulators of a large size for the Mega Braid. We used the electrobraid brand claw type, and they were perfect. Also, use large size copper split bolts. The smaller electrobraid size are too small. To fasten the ends of the Mega Braid to the fence we used brackets and glass insulators from a telegraph line that we had. These aren't products most people have, so shop for the larger glass insulators and wire or bolt them on. It certainly makes a superior fence that is very strong, easy to see (far more visible than electrobraid) and maintenance free.

best horse fencing solution we've found

Mega Braid Polyrope is a soft braided rope much like the yachting braid than many of the nice rope halters are made from. There is an inner core with a braid around that. The rope is easy to work with, though it is important to get insulators that will work well with the rope, wire insulators won't work and most 1/4" rope insulators are too small. Insulators that roll or allow movement without abrasion are best. This fence is easy to tension, we strung it, leaving off the corners, then stretched the corners into place. Ours is strung like a boxing ring, with corners that are suspended like turnbuckles from a corner post using a tie on corner/end insulator for poly rope fence. This fencing carries a 20 year warranty, and is much safer than high tensile wire. If an animal impacts the fence the rope stretches and immediately bounces back -- like a boxing ring. The rope doesn't stretch out and stay stretched out. It can be tensioned using tensioning devices as well. I won't fence my horses with anything else ever!

We are big believers in using this type of hot fench for our horses and this product is the best quality fencing we have ever used. The price may appear to be a bit high but not when you see the product. Strong, durable and conducts perfectly. I will easily get 10 years out of this product which was not the case with the other polyropes we had been buying and replacing every 3 years. The biggest issue we had with polyropes was it would degrade in the hot Texas sun and the wire strands that carry the charge would always break. Not with this product, it's polyrope on steroids... This rope is thicker than standard polyrope so make sure you get hangers and connectors that accomidate the thicker size.

Great quality heavy( 1/4" ) electric rope

Love this braided rope. Works great , and better value than the other name brand . Heavy and suitable as a barrier fence on its own . Will buy again for my next paddock area.
