Good quality
This are nice quality leggings. Many reviewers say they are not at all itchy but I would disagree - they are about as good as wool can get but they are still just a tiny bit itchy out of the box. Perhaps they will soften after a wash. The fabric weight is medium. They are not thin so there is no transparency at all, and while they are not super thick either, if I wear my normal size pants over these, they do feel a bit tight. Size-wise, I am 5"6/108 lbs/26-27 in jeans, with moderate hips and booty, and I would describe the XS size I bought as a S ( the sizing chart on the box seems to agree, it shows "extra-small" as equivalent to US size 4-6 which should really be called "small" since extra-small is US size 0-2). The XS is a close but not tight fit on me personally and I could even wear these as leggings at my casual office, which if they were truly XS I could not. The bottom hits just above the ankle and the waist band hits just below the waist so I would say they are neither low nor high-waisted.

I'm in love with these leggings/tights/long johns
I'm late to the "merino as outdoor apparel" game, but after just a few outings, I'm in love with these leggings/tights/long johns. These are the thickest of Icebreaker's leggings. They're the only ones I would feel comfortable wearing as leggings without shorts, skirt or pants over them. However, they don't have much spandex, so they bag in the knees a little. I won't be wearing them with a tunic around town. But they are FANTASTIC base layer for cold weather outdoor adventures (i.e. under rain pants or tech nylon while hiking, under snow pants for skiing/boarding or just lounging around camp.) I think they will be great under shorts for winter running too. But too warm for the gym I suspect. I find them plenty soft, but true these aren't your silky poly/spandex tights. I'm always cold, so I donned these at a campout with night time temps down to 40 and non stop rain. I wore them under my pants evening & morning, plus slept in them that night. I was never cold! Even when the cuffs of my pants got soaked through packing up camp, my ankles/calves stayed dry. I've machine washed them in cold and hung to dry -- they've come out looking great with no shrinkage, no piling (I don't wash with rough fabrics like jeans or any velcro items) and the wash sucks the bagged knee back to shape. I highly recommend these for outdoor wear for anyone who gets cold easily.

Top Quality100% Merino Wool Leggings that won't pill - Warmth without bulk!
The Icebreaker Vertex leggings fit as expected. I love Icebreaker brand base layers, especially because the items are made of high quality merino wool. The fabric is smooth and silky, unlike other brands that feel 'fuzzier.' They machine wash well, and keep me warm without excess bulk. I would have preferred a fabric-wrapped elastic waistband, but this detail did not keep from ordering. I appreciate that these leggings are 100% merino wool, rather than blended with synthetic fibers, however small the amount. I am very particular about the inherent quality of fabric, and the merino wool used in this garment must be spun from long-twist fibers. I have other top end brands which feel fuzzy even before washing. They end up pilling and attracting every particle of laundry lint. In my experience, inferior merino wool is spun from less costly short-twist fibers (resulting in excess pilling). I machine-wash all my Icebreaker items in warm water, and hang to dry. Buy these now, while 100% merino wool items are still available. Top tier brands on the market increasingly are blending synthetics into their wool products! This is not necessary for strength, durability, or 'stretch' if the fabric is of top-notch quality. Sadly, I've noticed that even Icebreaker is starting to feature merino wool 'blends'. Nothing beats 100% pure merino wool :)

Cant go wrong with ice breaker
Ice breakers are always great core pieces to keep you warm the old days of thermal underwear, this is the best you can buy this particular cut is extremely tight fitting they look more like tights you wear to the gym,, to each is own but I like the every day ones for every day,, I suppose these would be good for people who wear really tight clothes

From what I'd heard (and was spending on) Icebreaker gear ...
From what I'd heard (and was spending on) Icebreaker gear I definitely expected these to be much warmer. I still have to wear 2 layers to snowboard and stay warm. They are soft and comfy though!

TOASTY without overheating.
TOASTY without overheating. Great for camping in cold weather, hiking in cold weather, or just traveling in cold weather. It's the best way to stay warm when you need to keep the weight down in your pack. For me, they got a little loose after the first wear, but they always snap back when I wash them. They pilled, but I never wear them alone, so it doesn't matter. I wear them under my harem pants (basically negative warmth) in 30 degree weather, and I'm fine.

These leggings are so soft and cozy that I pretty much choose to live in them during the winter
These are Icebreaker's heaviest weight leggings (260 gsm) that are 100% merino wool. I seriously wear these all winter long either as a backcountry baselayer or just lounging around the house--and frequently even out of the house by themselves (don't judge me)--because they are that soft and cozy. I like that the fabric is warm, but also a breathable, natural fiber. They do pill and fuzz up a tiny bit with use, but nothing too terrible. I wash them in cold water on the delicate cycle of our front-load washer and hang to dry; they've lasted years.

Itchy and run large.
Itchy and run large. These are meant to be a base layer. As such, do order a size smaller than you would normally. The wool in my opinion is very itchy

Great winter base layer!
Bought as a base layer for Iceland, thicker than I expected so you could wear them if warmer as leggings. They worked really well in minus temperatures underneath trousers. Have bought other base layers in the past but these are by far the best.
