Cheap Screws - Learn from others mistakes
BE AWARE! The window lock is substantial and I’d give it 5 stars however… the screws that come with it look nice but are easily sheared. I am a woodworker and know to drill a pilot hole which is a good thing because these come with no instructions or template. You can Google a template for these Ives window locks. I started with a 1/16th pilot hole and the first screw sheared at the head under very little stress. I then used a 3/32nd pilot hole and the second screw sheared at the head with even less stress. On the third attempt I used a 7/64 pilot hole and the screw held without shearing at the head but I was afraid to tighten the screw. I bought 17 of these window locks to replace all the old ones on my mid-century house. My windows are solid oak which shouldn’t be an issue when drilling pilot holes. My concern is if they’ll hold over time with a pilot hole nearly the size of the screw. When I install the rest of them I’ll squeeze wood glue in the pilot holes for added support. Does the job.
It's quite solid and well made, with a slight spring when it locks. It's a classic lock that does its job. In my case, that's latching the chicken coop door.

This was just terrible quality control on the manufacturer's part
Intended to install on a double-hung window. The two windows' sashes appeared to line up, but the two pieces of the lock did not align and could not be used. I then placed the lock on a flat table surface to check whether it was my window or the lock that was the problem. The catch plate, when placed on the swinging armature in the position it should be when operating correctly, sat a full 1/8" above the flat table surface. My house has 10 double-hung windows and I've installed this type of sash lock many times before. This was just terrible quality control on the manufacturer's part.

I ordered three of these last year for a window rehabbing project. They looked and worked great and appeared to be solid and well made. This year I tackled a few more of the windows in the house and ordered three more of the latches to match. The parts that arrived are labeled 07B15 instead of 07MB15. They look different and seem less solid. Of course, I let amazon know and was sent three more of the wrong latches. No one seems to be able to tell me if the item pictured on this page is still available or not.
