Recommended for wider drain trims, unlike those that come with adapters.
Pro: Drain trim Con: Drain plug - Get sonething else. I spent hours on Amazon because none of these drain trims has a clear photo from the top with specific measurements. So I provded pictures for this one. I decided to give this one a try since a previous purchase of a "universal" drain trim with adapter did not allow me to use my silicone tubshroom hair catcher. These adapters let you fit a narrower drain onto a wider opening, which I do not want. This kit does not come with those adapters. Plus a narrower drain I think might drain slower. And, the drain trim fits those tubshroom drain hair catchers exactly at the tubshroom's base where it's supposed to create a snug fit. The pictures with the measuring tape has a bit of an optical illusion because the tape measure cannot lay flat due its shape / thickness and the camera lens is at an angle plus the drain has an angled facet. But what I can surmise is the inner diameter opening of the drain trim from the top view is 1-3/4 inches, the facet diameter where it is at an angle is about 1-7/8 to 2". The actual thread I think is the standard 1-1/2". I do not recommend the screw-in plug that comes with this. Get something else in its place especially because of #1 below: 1. The drain plug relies on a thin o-ring. I prefer a thick gasket. 2. the locking snap ring at the bottom requires you to permanently leave it with the trim on a default installation. I removed this and the plug before installation. 3. if you remove the snap ring and want to use the drain plug, the bad design has a chance of losing pieces of the plug in the drain as it is. 4. if you insist on using the drain plug then either leave it as-is upon installing (default install) - which will require to remove the entire drain trim if you want to remove it at a later time - or - you can superglue the brass collar in place so it does not fall down the drain, remove the snap ring and thread the bottom to the drain trim hole. then, you can screw the plug in whenever you want to plug the drain and unscrew it when done. installation was a hassle not because a special tool was required, but because a glob of plumber's putty managed to get into the p-trap and would not come out. that was when the drain trim was exactly installed as i wanted - with the orientation of the brushed pattern. i was forced to uninstall it to remove the putty in the drain, then reinstall it. However, the installation wasn't as flush as before and was tighter. Not as ideal as the first time.

My method of install...fwiw
Perfect installation. The previous plumber /person mucked up the previous drain installation. Not enough putty, misaligned the drain shoe gasket. See the photos for the putty lay and the gasket elongation that occurred. FWIW install tips: preheat the putty with a heat gun (hand rolling a warm putty is supper easy) to make it ultra-pliable. Clean the basin really well then lubricate the tub with a light coat of gasacinch (imo). Align the gasket between the tub and drain shoe/connector with some pressure if possible this where most installs eventually leak. If the gasket is off center due to the drain being PVC and handly ever aligns perfectly to the tub basin. I add a dab of lubricant to the heated putty which is on the drain fitting then screw it into the fitting. I have never ever had a single leak or failure. Period. FWIW: filling cold putty between the palms is a field method. When you heat it with a hairdryer or heat gun you let the putty absorb heat directly. It should feel like gum after rolling. You can test the putty by pushing a small piece between your fingers any edge drakes it is too cold and it will form hairline cracks will eventually allow water to seep between the tub and the drain shoe. If the gasket was misaligned then water will eventually find its ways into the outside world (ceiling, sun floor, etc)

Fits a true 1.5 inch drain
I saw a lot of reviews discussing the size of this drain. This drain fits a nominal 1.5" application. Note that the OD of 1.5" pipe is 1.9",not 1.5" as you may think. Also confusing is that the drain you may be removing is actually for a 1-1/4" drain that was installed with an adapter sleeve to make it fit into a 1.5" drain (many home store drains are sold this way, and coincidentally the OD of 1-1/4 pipe is close to 1.5"). With the true 1.5" size of this drain I see two advantages to an adapted drain - the adapter is usually plastic and allows one more threaded seal to leak, and the larger 1.5" provides a little more flow area to let the water drain faster. If you have a true 1.5" drain pipe, choose a true 1.5" drain like this, not one with a sleeve. As for the durability it says its all brass and it feels sturdy. My home store sleeved (probably pot metal) drain corroded the cross out after a couple of years. Time will tell how this holds up.

A Solution to the 1.5 Inch Diamater Issue
This is a solid product - quite literally - that feels heavy in hand and is much better than many other options available in the marketplace. I am writing this review to explain the 1.5 inch width issue that many have complained about. Initially, I had the same problem that others had: it was too big to fit in the bathtub hole. I ordered another product from amazon but with a different manufacturor and 1.5 inch diameter: same problem, it was too big. Long story short, turns out that there was a plastic sleeve left in the hole that was a part of the old drain. Once I removed that sleeve - I used a special wrench but it could also be cut with some effort - the hole diameter was perfect for the product. There are drains you can buy that "adapt" to the two different standard sizes with the use of a sleeve similar to the one i had to remove. The previous owner had used such a drain. The rest of the project went without a hitch and it's looking great! I will try to upload some pictures that will help explain this a bit better. I think the seller of this product can do a better job explaining such things on this board, hence the 4 stars.

reccomend
Nice solid piece. Much better than the lower priced options. The quality if the piece justifies its cost.
