Basically, it toasts just fine

Even browning for bread, muffins, and bagels, so five stars for the heating elements. It does feel a bit "Plasticy" though - the dial and lever do not evoke a high-end feel, and there is no way to see progress till it's finished and pops up the toast --- but if you don't mind basic, it works just fine!

Looks/Feels Cheap, but Toasts Well

Initial reaction was cheaply made compared to all our previous toasters. Very light and the metal shell feels flimsy, BUT we didn't buy it as a work of art. All we want is a toaster that toasts and lasts. We've had this unit barely a month, but in that time we've toasted toast (what else?), bagels and muffins. Once we found the sweet setting, all came out just the way we like them. As we have become used to, the second consecutive toasting comes out a bit darker than the first, but not really objectionably so. Our first criterion satisfied; it toasts. The second criterion is pending; one month is not a measure of its endurance. Time will tell. So far, we are well satisfied with our selection.

This toaster works!

Most important to me was the length of the toaster slot, and this toaster accommodates the bread I get without having to buy a long toaster, which would take up too much room on my counter. I often only toast one slice at a time, and it handles that just fine as well. It’s my new favorite appliance!

Great toaster! Update: Awesome toaster!

I did a lot of research on toasters here at Amazon before deciding on this one. Reviews are all over the board for this and every other toaster. The biggest selling point for me was the generous size of the slots. I wanted to be able to put my organic seed bread in without having to bend it or shove it in. I also wanted to be able to fit a bagel in without shaving off some of it first. Everything I've put in this toaster has fit easily. The bagel setting does a wonderful job of toasting the cut side while warming the outside. The defrost setting is perfect for toaster strudels. It defrosts them, then toasts them so when they come out they are done throughout, and not still hard and cold in the middle. English muffins can finally be toasted in one pass instead of two or more. A complaint people seem to have about this toaster is that it gets too hot...it's an appliance so yes, it does get rather warm, but I've never had an urge to fondle my toaster while it is toasting, so there is no reason for the warmth to bother me. It also has a high-lift lever so you never need to touch the toaster to remove your item. The only drawback to this toaster for me is the settings dial, which goes from 1-6. I like lightly browned toast and to achieve that I have to go to 4.5, so the lower settings are useless to me. If you like dark toast, this will not do the job, but if you're fine with light to medium toast, this is a great choice. If this toaster lasts more than a year, I will up the rating to 5 stars. The longevity would make up for the lack of variety of the settings dial. **UPDATE** I've had this for over a year, and I love it even more. The settings dial I mentioned previously is actually totally dependent on which breads you use. If you use a white or potato bread, you can get a nice toast on a lower setting. It has consistently made wonderful toast, bagels, english muffins, pop tarts and toaster strudels for my family of five. It gets used at least once a day, if not more, and the toast is fairly even on both sides (I've never had a toaster that was perfectly even in terms of toasting). I use the same setting day after day for my favorite bread, and the results are always consistent. It still looks shiny and new, it's easy to clean with the removable crumb tray and/or shaking it upside down outside. The cord is very long for a toaster, which I love, and it has a built-in cord wrap on the underside to keep excess out of sight. This is, hands down, the best purchasing decision I've ever made on Amazon.

Highly Recommended

At 65 years old I've been around the block a few times and the one thing I love more than life itself is toast. This is the best toaster I have ever owned. Up until now I've spent my life buying cheap toasters, you know the type I mean, just your standard 2 slot $10-12 dollar types that only last maybe a few years. But this Krups toaster? no doubt will last until my last breath. It's built solid and toasts all my bread to perfection every time. I got brave one morning and tried one my fat NY bagels and not only did they easily fit but toasted the inside perfectly. So after my first week I decided to clean this beauty. The easy slide out tray underneath trapped every single bit of crumbs that it collected. Trust me when I tell you, You won't go wrong with this masterpiece. Thank You Krups for making this old fella happy. Cheers !!!

Not the best toaster, but will do

The toaster looks great on the counter, and the slots a deep, which is nice. The downside, even on the highest setting it does not heat through the densest breads. I use it for thick frozen slices of bread, and thought that if I choose "frozen+bagel" it would work perfectly. Well, not so much. It actually did not heat up my bagel at all. So ultimately you have to just use frozen function and then regular function, toasting bread twice. Even then a bit super even result. Now I have not tried it with just regular bread, it might be just fine with that one. I am keeping the toaster though

Good toaster girlfriend says it's too slow toasting

I like the the even toasting. I put it on 4 1/2 setting for my whole wheat bread and it comes out toasted to my liking. With white bread lower the setting to your liking. I found that it's hard to clean most of the crumbs don't make it to the crumb tray. My girlfriend complains that it takes too long to toast ....overall it's a good toaster .

Toasts nicely

Happy to find a toaster to replace the chrome one we had. Lovely finish, matches the kettle perfectly. Toasts nicely, like the cancel button for easy shut off.

Very light weight

I have had an earlier model of this toaster, which I loved, but it’d recently failed. I was excited to order its replacement. However, the new model is so lightweight that when you push the buttons to reprogram it, it slides away before the button is depressed. I tried to stop that by holding it, but the outside of the toaster is very hot. Disappointing quality.

Good styling. Ease of operation.

First of all I like the appearance of the toaster. Its surfaces are styled to enhance any cupboard and they are very easy to clean. It does an excellent job of browning, just the way I like it.
