Review of Kwikset 158 Round Single Cylinder Deadbolt featuring SmartKey in Satin Nickel @ $32.98. I decided to replace all of my entry locks so that I could use 1 key to get into all of them. This included my garage. Rather than pay a locksmith to rekey everything, I opted to try the Smartkey system of locks. I'm glad I did. Rekeying the locks was a breeze. I am not considered a handyman by any means, but I have replaced doorknobs and deadbolts before. There's no installation instructions that come with the doorknobs, but the deadbolts all had them. Every set I bought came with Smartkey instructions. Fortunately for me, all of my old hardware was basically the same size as the new and all of the screw holes for faceplates, etc., lined up fine. The new striker plates also fit nicely into the old spaces. This particular model comes with optional faceplates for the door facing, at least mine did. I did not want to have to cut out more space for the 1 faceplate that was provided with 4 screws to secure it rather than 2 like the other faceplate and my old one. There was a template provided however for the larger one, which was nice. And it was a plastic template with a piece that fits into the hole where the deadbolt would fit into. This seems to be sturdy, and the lock knobs worked smoothly. I found it much more aesthetically appealing. Plus, it just looked more formidable to me than the regular ones. 4 stars due to the scuffed up inside half. Also, 1 of the screws/bolts that goes on from the inside never would thread on/screw in easily; it kept feeling like it was cross-threaded. I hope this helps someone to decide whether or not to try this product.

Great dead bolt lock...

Great deadbolt lock. The Kwikset website identifies this as part of their MILAN series. The lock was easy to install, replacing an old Schlage deadbolt. The SmartKey feature is much appreciated, allowing for keying to match other locks in the house. The SmartKey feature is very easy to use, but makes the lock mechanism "feel" less solid. With most locks I have used (from various vendors) there generally is a solid stop at the end of the key turn. These locks (we bought three different SmartKey locks) do not have a solid stop at the end of the key turn, allowing for turning a little past the end. This may be due to the way the SmartKey mechanism may work. It will take a little getting used to, but it is not a deal breaker for me. The overall quality seems excellent and it looks great! It also includes a strong latch plate with long screws which will help with the overall security. The one issue I have is the orientation of the lever to lock and unlock from the inside of the house. The lever is vertical when locked and horizontal when unlocked. This seems counter-intuitive, but not unworkable. I haven't seen instructions anywhere for changing this, if even possible.

Confusing installation "manual"

The installation "manual" that came with the Milan single cylinder deadbolt refers to parts that are not in the box, i.e. "Latch B", I would have liked to install the deadbolt as "door edge not chiseled" since mine wasn't. I assume Kwikset upgraded/modified the deadbolt and didn't bother to update the "manual". Kind of irritating since I'm not good at "chiseling" doesn't look good, but I missed the return window.

Great quality

Its a higher end Kwikset lock, definitely better than the $20 locks they sell at Home Depot. If drilling a new hole plan ahead and get a door lock install kit or a lock & door reinforcer to draw the drill location. The template included with this lock isn't helpful.

Easy to install

I needed something that matched the original lock on my condo door. This was exactly the same, except it says "Kwikset" instead of "Weiser" in small lettering, but I don't think anyone will see that. This was easy to install; it took my husband about 15 minutes, and he's not super experienced with lock installations. I re-keyed it to our existing keys, which was as easy as the instructions say it will be. After many hours searching for a solution to a safety issue that didn't involve anything visible from the hallway of our condo, I could not be happier with this lock!

se ve sólido al momento de instalar, con 2 simples tornillos por dentro.

En mi caso ya tenía anteriormente otro cerrojo este nuevo no quedó en el mismo lugar tiene otras medidas ligeramente más grandes,por eso en las fotografías aparece resanado tanto puerta como picaporte. La puerta no es tan ancha y siento que solo entró como unas 3 vueltas el tornillo por dentro del cerrojo sin embargo se ve bueno el material,sólido y tiene buena presentación.

Manual de instalação diverge dos itens da caixa

O material parece ser de boa qualidade, mas o cromado apresenta uns riscos já de fábrica (não vem com película protetora). A caixa não continha o colar e plaqueta removíveis (acabamentos) da tranca, apesar de constar no manual, ao invés disso há uma borda fixa já no ferrolho.
