Great Z-Wave lock, at a low price (see details). Highly Recommended
It's kind of wild... I looked back at my Amazon purchase history, and I bought two Kwikset 99140-023 SmartCode 914s back in 2015! Those were for my last house, however, my experiences were so good that I decided to get a Kwikset 99140-019 SmartCode 914 (Z-Wave Plus, Satin Nickel) for my most recent home. The product has changed a bit since the last two I bought, so let me get into the details... I'm not exactly sure how other lock manufacturers handle "smart" locks, but Kwikset took the approach of building an electronic, mechanized module, and making the "smart" part modular. In essence, you can have an electronic lock with no networking features, or you can have a module that adds, Z-Wave, Zigbee, or wifi. Having a Z-Wave setup at home, I selected that flavor of 914. Physical setup of the lock is a little different than a traditional deadbolt. I was retrofitting this in place of an old (and terrible) Halo deadbolt. First, I took off the existing deadbolt and cleaned the door as well as I could. I then mounted the outside-facing hole insert and keypad. After taking the backplate off if the inside-facing motor/battery assembly, I attached the connectors for the inside and outside wire harnesses. I screwed the halves together with two long screws, and then secured the motor/battery assembly with two small screws. Running the "handling" routine takes less than a minute, and codes can be programmed into the lock pretty easily*. Once you are done pairing the lock to your Z-Wave network, you can attach the outer shell. One difference from earlier iterations of the lock is that the outer screws are of the regular Phillips type, and not the security screws that they used to use. If you care about that (like you're a Airbnb'er), you can source some dot or tri-lobe security screws. In terms of Z-Wave functionality, I have to admit that I cheated on setup and paired the lock BEFORE I put it on the door. I did this because security-enabled devices can sometimes have inclusion problems when far from the controller. The device showed up in Homeseer HS4Pro, with me being able to automate the lock, see its state, and read events off of the lock. I'm using it to trigger lights in the garage and entry. As far as range goes, it's mediocre... you may need to use something like an Aeon extender, depending on your installation. Frankly, I'm shocked that the Kwikset 99140-019 SmartCode 914 is available for $150.... I know I paid at least $250 for the equivalent in 2015. The look of the unit, in terms of build quality and finish is pretty good, and the operation is flawless. Also, I'm a fan of SmartKey. I know the lock-picking lawyer wouldn't approve, but this lock meets my needs, and fits in my budget. Highly Recommended

Decent lock. Bought because my condo mandated the design.
Well, my condo association decided that we had to buy these locks as an architectural requirement. They actually selected the Kwikset 913, but the 914 looks exactly the same but has a ZigBee module for a connected lock. Install: I disassembled my old locks, opened the box, and was immediately dismayed as I went to install. The back plate wasn't in the box (the metal frame used to secure the front housing to the door from the inside). I looked again and again, but it didn't seem to be there. Extremely frustrated, I put my old locks back on the door and started to box this lock back up. Amazon returns make it easy, so I was just going to return and replace. At the last moment, I figured it may save me time and inconvenience if I called the Kwikset customer service line... So I did. I explain the issue, hoping I can coerce them into overnighting a back plate to me rather than having an open box return in Amazon's inventory. The CSA tells me, no... The back plate is there. I assure him, it's definitely not. He says, no... It's attached to the back housing. You just have to get it off. Even looking at it, holding it in my hands, I wasn't really seeing it. Nothing was obviously coming apart. I email his personal phone a picture, and he says, no.. I can see it. He manages to direct my fingers into the right place, and I finally manage to pry this thing off. There aren't any instructions in the documentation. I'm normally very good at this sort of thing, and I swear, this was the least intuitive thing on the planet. It looked and felt like the plate was a part of the locks control housing. I had to force the thing off, concerned I was going to damage something. If you are like me and can't find it, it really is there. It's just frustratingly not obvious or intuitive. Anyways, I get the thing installed with no issues from there. Connecting the Zigbee module: no problems. I have a Smart things hub. It was easy. It works with Google Home pretty easily. Setup and Design: the little switches on the back of the physical housing let you turn on the auto lock, etc. Very cut and dry. The code is easy to program. I had it set up and functioning in no time at all. The Kwikset smartkey thing works really well. I purchased an additional Kwikset deadbolt because our door was cut for it. Setting them up with the same key was easy. Use: the code is easy to put in. The lock is easy to turn with the key and quiet when you put it in and turn. The lock is also quiet and smooth turning the deadbolt from the inside. One big detractor, using the pin code to open the door electronically... This sucker is LOUD. Anyone inside is going to know you've arrived. The IFTT commands to open the lock as my phone connects to my home wifi hub works well. I can hear the lock opening as I come off of my elevator. Even if my home network goes down from a brown out and my phone reconnects and unlocks the door, the auto lock after 30 second will secure the door again. Final thoughts: I only bought this design because I was forced to. Honestly, installed on the door, it is moderately attractive. I like the vibe. I use a hallway passage lever as the main door handle. I'm happy generally. If I want forced to purchase this kit, I would have probably opted for a touchscreen lock rather than one with physical buttons. I'm certain the keys are going to start fading over the just like well used keys on a keyboard. Ass result, I try and avoid using the pin code wherever convenient to extend the new look on the digits. I've had the whole set a few months now. If you like the look, it's a decent set. Do keep in mind that it's got a ZigBee radio and not z-wave, so be sure your home hub is compatible.

Better than I thought
I wondered how this would actually work, batteries sliding the dead bolt...but it works fine. Flawlessly. And if one chooses, a turn of a key or the inside twist latch also works it smoothly. My plan was to use 3' vertical pull bars on the door, which leaves 2 locking pre-drilled holes in the door. I put deadbolts in both of them, the top one this electric/key one. This way, if I want to allow entry by anyone trusted, I can leave the bottom latch unlocked, email them a numeric code to open the door. Contractor, maid... If I ever want, I can just change the combination and their entry is discontinued. And when home, if I don't want to be walked in on, I can just latch the bottom dead bolt, and even if the top one is worked, the door will stay bolted shut. Good system.

Looks great, but not that smart
Great lock to use without a key. It’s not as smart as it boasts. You need specific devices/alarm brands to integrate Returned for the “extra smart” Kwickset lock. Otherwise it looks great and functions as a decent keypad lock

Disappointing
It’s loud. The batteries die fast. The touchscreen is hard to see. It loses connectivity (and the Wi-Fi access point is maybe 10 feet away). I’ve not been happy with it.

Simple to install..a drop-in replacement for an older lock...
I purchased this to replace an older not-quite Ring compatible Kwikset lock. (Some of the features worked when I told the Ring controller that it was a different, ring-compatible model number. Others didn't...) This unit works correctly. I can check lock/unlock status from my phone and change it if necessary. As I was installing it, the app asked me if I wanted to download the access codes from my existing Schlage front door lock...very cool and a significant time savings. Absolutely no complaints. It works well.

Good quality, easy to install
I purchased a Kwikset SmartCode lock for my front door, replacing a troublesome Schlage touch pad model. I subsequently ordered a second unit for another entry door. I had no difficulty integrating the locks into my SmartThings hub for the optional smart control features.

Happy
This lock is great. Easy to use. Looks smart too. Arrived very quickly too. Needed to replace the same brand and same size so I am really happy with this.
