Better flushing; swapped parts
I had this type of flush valve and water started leaking into the bowl after it had closed. First I tried just replacing the red gasket but it didn't seem to fit correctly, so I bought this part thinking I'd probably need to replace the whole thing. I figured I would try this gasket first just in case, and noticed when looking at this part close up that there is a slot/groove the gasket fits into - so this time, I installed the gasket correctly and it stopped the leak. To replace just the gasket, the top of this type of valve unscrews to access everything. My old valve also needed the top gasket that the flush lever hits (which I couldn't find sold separately anywhere) so I put that in also. Finally, my toilet has been stopping flushing too quickly, meaning we had to hold the lever down for a full flush. So I also put in the main floating part, and now my flushes are longer than they've been in years. Either this style does a longer flush than the Mansfield version or my old part wasn't working anymore. If you do put in this entire part, you will need to remove the tank from the bowl, which is a much bigger job. And you might want to also buy a tank/bowl bolt set because if you are replacing this valve, the old bolts are probably quite rusty and worth replacing as well. And you might need a helper to hold the tank and help move it. I was happy that I was able to swap parts from this to my old valve, and it seems well made, but I only gave 4 stars because the directions on the back of the package were for a completely different style of flush valve. This isn't rocket science, but for someone who hasn't replaced toilet parts before instructions can be very helpful. Finally, for anyone who isn't sure what this is - this is the flush valve that controls water flow from the tank into the bowl. The main other valve is the fill valve, which controls water flow into the tank. The only connection between the two is usually a little hose, that in this valve goes into the center of the top cap and gives a little stream of water to finish filling the bowl after this valve is closed and the tank is still filling.

It's OK, I do t really like the valve itself . Old school flapper seems like a better design . But , if u don't want to also change the lever ,and u own a Mansfield toilet, u are stuck . So Mansfield sucks in general in my humble opinion
