Great for learning to spell!
We got this as a gift for my 3 year old who is great at recognizing letters and just getting into spelling. Great quality, sturdy material, and really fun. This is definitely something that will grow with my child, I like that there is a flap to reveal and hide the word that are spelling to make it easy or advanced. My son leaves it open so he can practice recognizing the letter, finding it amongst all the tiles, and then learning to build simple words, all while hanging with his Paw Patrol buddies! 10/10 would recommend.

Great learning tool, but for a bit older child
As with all Melissa and Doug products this toy is very well built. The box is wooden as are the letter tiles. The picture spelling cards are heavy and laminated on both sides so spills wipe off and making them durable for lots of letter play. This was purchased for a Kindergartener. He knows his letters, but is unable to spell. He initially had no interest in it at all. HIs 8 year old sister who is in the 3rd grade, but struggles with reading and has dyslexia has LOVED it. Once she became interested in it, the little one decided he wanted to play with it too. This is rated for ages 4-7, but there is a wide range in a child's ability to spell during these years so I wasn't sure what to think. However, in typical M&D fashion they have thought of everything. THe letters are great to play with alone while the little one practices his letter recognition and his letter sounds. He can began to put letters together to make words from sounds he knows without the word cards. Once he is a bit older he can flip down the cover over the word on the picture card and simply match the letters, look at the picture and connect the word to the picture. The older child can use the toy as intended by slipping in the card, making the word then flipping down the cover to check her word. Each card has two sides so there are more words to practice. The ONLY drawback to this toy is that while everything fits into the box as intended, there is nothing to hold in the letter tiles if the toy is carried around. The letter tiles are not easily dropped out, but rough kids like mine are liable to lose a few along the way. I would also like to see expansion packs for this....more letter tiles and more picture cards to keep the learning going. For us this is a great home school product that allows learning just about anywhere and does NOT require more screen time. We love it despite the initial slow start. I recommend giving it to them and letting the child first tell you how he wants to play with it and then showing them other ways to play to keep learning fun. Thanks Melissa and Doug for another great product and one that should last for years.

Such a great educational toy that makes spelling fun
Ahhh I love this Paw Patrol Spelling Pad so much! My son is pretty obsessed with Paw Patrol. I can safely say it's his favorite thing. So to have something educational paired with that is pretty exciting for me as a homeschooling mom. The spelling area screen is designed just like the pup pad from the show. The Spelling Pad has storage for all your letters at the bottom and a pocket for all your spelling cards in the back. It packs up nicely and doesn't take up much room at all. It will easily fit on our shelves and can be pulled out for table or floor play. The letters are chunky and easy to grab and pick up. My son has cerebral palsy and his fine motor skills are lacking - this is a big deal for us because many educational toys are just a bit too advanced for him to use or they really trigger his frustration. He had zero issues picking up the letters and putting them in the speller. The letters are double sided, with different letters on each side. This is my only complaint about the product is you can have all the letters laid out, like we did, and not have the correct option showing for a card because it's on the back of another letter. I can see this being frustrating to some or limit independent use when they have to flip over all the letters looking for the correct one. Only complaint! There's a number of cards that have a variety of words on them featuring 3 and 4 letters in length. The photos are from paw patrol shows and really help engage my son's interest. You can also include some story recall if your child is as obsessed as mine haha! The cards are bendable, but very sturdy. I think with regular play they will hold up fine. There is a small tab between the letters and the card that reads "Melissa and Doug" that you can leave up to hide the spelling of the word, or flip down to show it. This is great for varying skill levels as beginner spellings/letter learners can copy the spelling and work on sounds and letter searching skills while more advanced spellers can attempt to spell independently and check their work after. You put the card in the Spelling Pad and it will hold up your letters for the word. The letters will not stay in without a card as it's open. When you are done, remove the card and the letters drop down to the container below it. Overall I am so, so happy with this product. My son loves it and we are really excited to add it to our play room.

Short term interest
The media could not be loaded. It’s a well made toy, sturdy, good for learning to spell. It’s good that you have the option to reveal the word or hide it. My daughter just turned 5 she was excited to play with it the first day. She likes paw patrol so that was a plus, but not all the cards have paw patrol characters on. Her favorite part was removing the cards and watching the letters fall. On the second and third day she played a little bit and after that she lost interest in this toy.

Great way to practice site words
This time allows kids to have fun while learning, which is always the goal. The toy allows kids to spell out the photo and check for correctness when they are done. I love that the blocks are real wood and not plastic.
