Great quality that works as advertised
This stone sharpens very well. Before sharpening, my knife was unable to slice through paper. Afterwards, it was able to easily slice through it. The sharpened blade made food prep much easier. I will definitely recommend this for anyone who wants to sharpen their dull knives.

Had to consult the Dad.
Gave this as a Christmas present. Dad had a great time sharpening all his knives. Now to get him to bring it over here and do mine. I should have had him open the gift while at my house. Rookie mistake.

Slurry in a Hurry
I use this NEIKO on all my sharp knives, kitchen and pocket/utility. I prefer water stones now, because they work up a good slurry that polishes as it cuts. 1000 grit is a bit high for really dull knives, but it tunes up the ones in regular use. 6000 is a bit of a bump up from 1000, but again, the water slurry provides me a good sharpening medium. My knives are quickly brought up to stropping speed. The NEIKO is wearing well. It is a fair size for all but my biggest knives.

A less expensive waterstone to sharpen my woodworking chisels
I hit the point in my woodworking hobby where I decided I needed to get my own chisels. And along with chisels, comes the need for an extensive set of things necessary to sharpen & hone your chisels. A waterstone is the second part and is used fairly often to keep a really sharp edge. The waterstones in the wodsowrking shops are another 50% more expensive than this stone. And while I am still a novice at sharpening, I appreciate a less expensive alternative. The silicone and bamboo bases are nice to keep the stone stable while I am pulling and pushing my chisel across the stone. When the stones are wet, they can otherwise be a little slippery. And yes, as other reviewers have noted, most people are going to use this to sharpen their knives.

Very nice
Well, that was easy! I sharpened all my kitchen knives with ease. The win for me is the guide. My biggest fear with sharpening knives myself has always been doing it wrong. So every two months, I have been using a service to sharpen my kitchen knives professionally. Expensive and time-consuming. I watched a couple of videos and let the magic begin. Straightforward directions. The unit stays put while in use and stores in a tiny amount of space. The most important rule is to saturate the stone entirely with water before use. Otherwise, you will trash your life. Washing quickly by hand after use (never in the dishwasher) and storing correctly. This is the final step to maintaining expensive knives. You will look at those cheap sharpeners with disdain after using this. I highly recommend this. Bonus that a sharp knife is safer to work with.

I can sharpen my Damascus chef's knife now!
I splurged and got a Damascus steel chef's knife that is literally the sharpest knife I've ever owned. The knife has a 15° cutting edge and so I purchased one of those fancy, drag-the-knife-through sharpeners that can do 15° angles. What a disappointment as all that sharper did was create too quick of a transition to the tip while also dulling the tip. Then I got this sharper. Sorting out the damaged tip on my Damascus steel knife was a bit of a hobby, but eventually, I got it back to the right shape, and boy can this kit sharpen a knife! I really used the helper angle thingy that came with it as well. Love it!

Standard Solid Quality
I found out that this product is probably manufactured in one place, but distributed under different brand names. That's just something I noticed when researching it. It isn't particularly relevant to the review. It comes in 1000 and 6000 grit levels. It turns out that 1000 is in the grit range that is best suited for sharpening. The 6000 side, so I understand, is more for fine-tuning than sharpening. It is good to have both grits. The rubber-bottomed bamboo base and the rubber "bumper" that you put on the stone before placing it into the bamboo holder, work perfectly to keep the holder stable and to keep the stone from scratching or moving about unnecessarily in the holder. The instructions on how to use the stone are on the sparse side. You are much better off tossing them and going to YouTube to actually see how people sharpen knives on sharpening stones. One tutorial used the same product under a different brand name. It's a good product and a valuable tool that every kitchen should have.

Works pretty well.
I found a goodly amount of knives in the kitchen that hadn't been used for about twenty years, and were about as dull as my last date. After a few minutes of patient work? Well...very nice indeed. I'm quite pleased with this, although the instructions were a bit non-instructive. Still, I prefer to sharpen by hand, so I'm used to it.
