Game changer, and vast improvement over early gen model
We bought a touchless trash can at Costco about 10 years ago when we first noticed them on the market. We had many issues with that model, which nearly soured us on sensor-triggered cans: 1) The batteries were stored inside the lid assembly, so gravity pulled them into the trash (as the cover wasn't strong enough to hold them) unless we added packing tape. 2) The trashcan body was easily dented and stained. 3) The motion sensor was too sensitive, picking up whenever someone walked even remotely close to it. So we finally broke down and replaced it. This model is a VAST improvement. The only major concern we had prior to purchase is that there are no bins, just plastic rims you wrap the bags around -- so bags are mandatory. We would have preferred a bin for the recycling so we could just dump it out routinely, but we've managed to re-use our recycling bags several times as long as we don't load it up with heavy bottles. Where our old can only had room for one thing, this handles trash and recyclables side by side. That's a game changer in our house, where we used to stash the city-provided bins in our kitchen where we'd trip over them, or else we'd have to haul things out in batches daily. This can doesn't have a ton of room, but it does buy us 3-5 days for recycling and generally about a week for trash. We don't mind getting in some extra steps 2-3 times a week, we just don't want to do it every day! We use 33-gallon bags for trash (as we have plenty of them left over from our past can) and 13-gallon bags for recyclables. Both work great as the excess on the larger bags wraps neatly around the rims. As you can see from the pictures, we put the stickers on the inside of the lid. The sensor is better at detecting motion intended for the can, though it does occasionally open if someone walks too near. We did have an issue after about a month where we thought the sensor was broken. It alternately kept opening without any input, or it would stay closed no matter how much your waved unless opened with the button. We turned it off for about 30 minutes, and just as I was about to contact support, we tried it again and it worked properly. And it has continued to work great for many weeks now. There were a few reviews that mentioned temporary malfunctions, so I'm guessing this was one of those. When in doubt, turn it off and leave it off for an extended period - if that doesn't fix it and the batteries are still good, then contact support. Honestly, I didn't expect to get so excited about a kitchen trashcan, but this makes things so much easier in the kitchen.

Edit: Revised Good can, warranty can be dodgy
edit: I got a suspiciously timed email saying they've shipped a replacement lid a day or so after originally posting this review. It did ultimately arrive though, so I can't fault them too much. Increased rating to reflect this, even if it required speaking out about the problem. Who knows? It might be more seamless for you if you buy it and need to make a claim. Your mileage may vary, but they made my case allright in the end Worked great for maybe a year, then the lid started failing to open consistently. Put in a warranty claim all all is well until the end. They say the unit is out of stock (despite it being very much in stock on both their website and here) before promptly ghosting me and never sending a replacement part as promised. Still giving two stars because its still sorta decent without the powered functionality, but know you are kinda SOL if something breaks

Product didn't last.
We purchased this in July 2022 and it quit working a month ago. When you spend this much for a product you would expect it to last more than 8 or 9 months. We are very disappointed.

The Trashinator
I love this thing! When you have a handful of trash you can keep the lid clean and have no awkward spills. It’s great!

After all the research, it really does exist...
When we decided to replace our 2 garbage can system with a dual compartment single can, I spent days researching. After seeing all of the sizes and reviews, I went into a store to see a couple of them in person in order to visualize them better. And each one only confirmed my fears--they were all tiny. No matter what, they would have never worked for us. I resumed my search on Amazon again, and through a google search for something along the lines of largest dual compartment indoor trash can/recycler, I ran across this one again. I had looked at it before, but honestly I was discouraged from buying it because I was not a big fan of the big triangle stickers on the front of the can and at the time, I didn't realize they were just that--stickers. But after realizing that this was the only can I could find in this size, I decided to give it a chance. As I was perusing the Amazon reviews, I realized the triangles were stickers and that they were easily moved from the front of the can to the lid. I thought perfect and decided to take my chances and order it. Amazon was as reliable as ever and I have to say, it was perfect. The size is actually perfect and much larger than most that I looked at (some of which would barely fit an empty gallon of milk). We can usually take it out about once a week (which was exactly what I wanted). Also, I give points to Nine Stars for their design. It really locks in the odor. We had tossed a blackened banana in there to get it off the counter and I forgot about it until I opened the can a day later and smelled it. But as soon as it closes, it locks the odor back in. I left it there until my husband came home from work just to show him (I know...but he was pretty amazed at how well it worked too). To give you a reference point for sizing, I have the 13 gallon trash bags and larger recycling bags (when we buy more, I'm going to get a similar size in recycling bags because right now it feels a little wasteful to use such a large bag to me). They fit fairly well--the trash can is deeper than it is wide so usually the bag doesn't seem to go all the way down, but it's a comfortable size when you go to take it out. Usually there's just enough extra space when everything shifts that I can toss a small grocery sized bag of trash from the bedroom or bathroom in on the way out the door. One of the reviews I read said that the bags were a little tricky to put in. They were the first time or two--I had to really focus on what I was doing, but it was an easy thing to get the hang of and now it's a pretty quick and easy job. You basically just fold the edge of the bag over these rings so they don't show and pop it in. It's not a big deal at all. Usually I follow the recommendation of another reviewer and take both out the same time, but I just tried to only take one out the other day and that works too. There are 2 separate rings so it can definitely be done fairly easily. Thus far, the motion sensor works great. If you need the lid to stay open for an extended period of time, all you need to do is push the open button instead of waving your hand over it. There is also a switch in the back to turn this off for changing the bags. It was the perfect purchase and I would highly recommend this product to others who are looking for a family size can where they can separate trash and recycling. As an added bonus, I noticed that I'm much more likely to consider whether all or part of what I'm throwing out can be recycled since they are both going to the same place so it might be a good way to help kids (or adults) really think about this difference. We already have some friends in our building who are looking at getting one too.

Recycling made easier
I try my best to recycle but our city only recycled paper and cardboard. This trash can helps out a lot. It’s easy to use. No cables or electricity needed.

A smart and hygienic waste bin.
It has 2 large compartments.easy to put bin liners in it.and it's good to have the bin lid open and not have to touch it.and it looks smart aswell.

As others have said.. lid mechanism will fail ... you have been warned
When you spend this kind of money on a bin ... it better last a long time !! Despite changing batteries lid open / close mechanism has got slower and slower over time to the point where I've just taken the batteries out and use it as a manual bin now. Disappointing
