Exact match for my John Deere X300 with 42 inch deck. So far it works just fine. Will have to wait to see if it holds up Only four stars because there is not any mounting hardware supplied.

Forget about self-tapping screws, use bolts and nuts.
Several people posting about this spindle mention that the new spindle did not include the self-tapping screws that come with the OEM John Deere spindle. As far as I am concerned, these screws are a pain in the neck; and I avoid them whenever possible. They are very prone to breaking off when one tries to remove them, leaving a part of the screw in the body of the spindle. If you try to remove the spindle (say, perhaps to replace a bearing) and the screw breaks off, it will be very difficult to reattach the spindle securely. I have found that it is better to mount the new spindle with nuts and bolts (preferably stainless steel). A 1 1/2" (long) X 5/16" (width) bolt will work. You may need to drill out the holes in the spindle just a little bit to get the bolt through it, but the spindle body is aluminum and is very easy to drill out. Run the bolt from the bottom, put a washer at the top, and use a nylock nut to secure the bolt. With this setup, the spindle is securely in place, and you should never have trouble removing it if you have to. The self-tapping screws are likely used because they are more easily installed at the factory, but they can become very problematic for the end user.

Not an exact replacement and does not come with any hardware.
The holes were in the same location as the original but too small to use my original hardware and since the new spindle did not come with any hardware I just drilled out the holes and it fit perfectly. Then i go to install the blade and the nut is a different size, smaller than the original. Again...did not come with any hardware So I still do not have it working yet. No paperwork or spec to tell me what thread it is.

Spindle Assembly Just Received
Just finished installing the two Oregon Spindle Assemblies. They appear to be clones of the John Deere OEM parts. I really could not find any difference between the damaged (original) parts and these Chinese-made after market units. IMPORTANT: do not lose the self-tapping screws from your original units. The Oregon Spindle Assemblies are not tapped! Use the self-tapping screws to install the units. Can't speak for performance or longevity, as I have not run them yet. The order arrived promptly and I got what I paid for. Give them a try and save $20 per unit. Update: Just mowed two acres with the John Deere X300 and new Oregon Spindle Assemblies. Encountered no issues (replaced belt and blades as well)with the new Spindles. Thanks, Oregon!

If you have one bad one just get both or three if your deck has three.
Bought over a year ago and they work great. I wasn't the best at greasing the original John Deer ones and the bearings wore and gave deck a vibration. Since these cost 1/4 of what John Deere wanted for replacement I was able to buy two and replace both. I added a fresh belt and new blades and I ran like the first day I took it home. Deck has no vibration. I've also learn to grease the fittings once a month so I don't have to replace them again.

Ordered two and sent both back. When I spun the shaft by hand it would bind at the same spot every time. I then chucked the shaft in a lathe and ran it a low rpm. The spindle housing vibrated in my hand indicating an out of round/bent shaft. Both had identical issues. Had I used these on the mower deck, it probably would beat itself to death. I did manage to reach the company that imports them under the Oregon brand and the gentleman was very prompt in returning my call. I advised him that better quality control is needed as I have read other complaints regarding the shaft not turning smoothly and evenly. I was told that this was never an issue with other spindles. If your spindle shaft does not rotate smoothly and evenly, with no binding, then you have an out of round shaft. Chuck one end of the shaft in a drill and hold the housing in your hand. With the drill on the housing/case, should not move at all. If it gyrates, like mine did, its a bent shaft. I will wait a while and order again to see if the fix was made. In the meantime, JD spindle it is.

After-market John Deere Spindle Assembly for X304 Mower
Received the two spindles in a timely manner. Installation was easy to install and they fit perfectly. They run smooth and quiet. Haven't cut grass yet, so I don't know how they are going to hold up. They were about $20.00 cheaper than OEM John Deere. They are made in China, but the bearings on the OEM spindles gave out at 100.9 hours of easy use. OEM units were probably made in China, as well, so why pay the extra money. Of the five moving parts on the X304 mower deck, four have crashed during the first 100.9 hours of use. Way to go, John Deere!

It looks like the original assembly
Its a good purchase if you don't want to pay the price for original equipment.
