Scotty Power Grip Plus Rls 18" Leader. Easy to use.
These work great for 20 lb. fishing line. The leader was too short for my use so I replaced it with a longer one.

Ok release, Scotty needs to improve the design.
Ok release, I used them because they came with the downrigger which I like allot, very well made. Have to place the line in the release pretty precisely to get the right release tension. The deeper you set the line in the release the harder it is to set off. So if you have a smaller fish hit it, it won't release and you may be dragging a fishing around for a while if you don't check your lines frequently. If it's not in far enough it releases on its own. Line placement in the release was difficult in rough waters. Got used to where to place line in release, but after several weeks of using them I finally replaced them with Blacks releases. Much more consistent release, set them up once and you don't have to worry about anything, just put the line in, close the release and that it. No more fussing around with where to place the line. Most captains I know only use Blacks. Pretty much the standard for releases. Found it hard to release the rod from the release when breaking down. I think this was due to the 18" leader, just provided too much slack. The release may work better with a shorter leader. I think that Scotty makes some really good products, but I think they need to change the design on these releases, just not a consistent release, and when your fishing you don't want to lose a fish because the tension is too light or too hard.

no operator problems here
The negative reviews reflect problems with the operators...not the product. There are 2 ways to adjust release tension: pull the clip at the rear to the rear, and/or adjust how deeply into the clasp you place the line. With 20 pound line, if I place my line inline with the black tab, it is too much tension for a shaker to pop the line but you know a fish is there. As for being too difficult to squeeze open, this is not an issue for me. These are large; about a 4x2x1.5 inch box. I think these are easy to use with cold fingers since you can squeeze them open with your whole fist, not just between forefinger and thumb. I have run flashers behind these no problem. The stackers with the spring clips are great as well. There is no line damage like the old twist and hook releases, no rubber bands to run out of, and they don't unscrew and fall apart like cannon releases do. These are quick and easy to hook a line to and east to stack.

Works very well on monofilament line
I like the scotty rease, but it would be nice to have a little more tension for braided line so there aren't as many false trips
