Pumped my 27.5" x 2.35" mt. bike tire firm 4 miles from my car !
I don't have one of these Spin Doctor Rescue HP Pro Mini Pumps but it saved me from a steep and long walk to my car wheeling my mt. bike. We are ordering one now ! (Actually, we found the HV - High Volume, Rescue model and ordered that one in that we will be using them on mt. bike tires.) The HP - High Pressure - models are really small, think magic marker sized, you could put it in your front breast pocket but it wouldn't stay there mt. biking. On top of a mt. in NH we had just taken some foliage pictures and my rear tire is fine in them. A minute later on the long, swooping descent I started sliding sideways down some granite, my rear tire was flat ! I got the new tube in and started pumping away with our mini pump, nothing. Air was leaking from around the Shrader valve ! So I started walking down . . . I asked everyone zipping by if they had a pump. Finally, a lovely and patient young woman stopped and had this tiny pump she pulled from a zipper pouch in the front of her vest. She had to be patient because with such low volume it took a while with me pumping like a mad cyborg . . . It's called "Rescue" for a reason. The flexible hose that threads on is a selling point. The threads give sure seal and the hose flexibility makes it easier to pump without risking bending the valve stem. So, I got to ride the 4+ miles to meet my partner who went to get the car . . . Which was still in the parking lot ! The keys were in MY pocket !!! The tire is still pumped. And it is only 18 months old as is the bike so I didn't suspect flats would be a problem. WRONG ! Heed this cautionary tale. Test all your equipment in real applications. Our old mini pump pumped tubes when not in a tire BUT not when there was any pressure on the tube. I could have been coyote and bear chow !
