It's spirograph just like you remember it ... except not
This is a neat idea and really great for travel. If you are a fan of the original spirograph you'll probably love this one too. Setup is very simple ... Install 2 AAA batteries (you do need a little screwdriver for that) and it's ready to go. There is a little door on the side with the two black buttons. Open the door and inside you will find 4 "Cyclex wheels". These are the plates you use to create designs. And one stylus. Place a wheel on the holder (the blue part in the picture). Use the stylus to trace around the shapes in the wheels and the wheel will move around the holder by rotating through the teeth. This is how you create the spirographs that we all know and love. When you are ready for a new one just hit the Erase button (one of the small black buttons in the picture). If you don't want to erase the picture you can lock the screen. While this keeps you from being able to erase the picture, it does not prevent you from drawing on it (either on purpose or by accident). To me, this means you can still mess up something you were working on and doesn't make it a great "Lock" feature. You also can't save the spirograph for posterity. This doesn't use paper and there is no digital output. You eventually have to erase your picture to make your next picture. The only other compliant I have about this is that the drawings look much brighter in the description then they do in real life. In the description, the screen looks backlight to me. In reality, the screen is not back lit and the colors are not as bold/bright as it looks like. Gone are the two wheels you had to try to manage in the original spirograph (this way is easier). And, you don't end up with drawings you can keep forever. but that said, I am really happy with this little set. The fact that everything can be kept all together makes this perfect for a car or hotel room.

not bright rainbow
This was much smaller than expected. But it is a great size for traveling. I like that the accessories, the 4 wheels and the pen can all go inside of the device. It's very easy to draw on and my 6 year old actually decided to not even use the spirograph wheels and drew cats on the screen instead. The spirograph wheels work fine, I tested it out and my kids were amazed at what the design looked like. My biggest issue is that the screen is not rainbow. At least not the one I received. It's more like a dirty white/tan. I wish the colors were rainbow like on the box. The button on the top left erases the design very well. However, the lock button on the right seems pointless. It prevents you from erasing, but you can still draw when it is locked, so your creation can still get messed up.

Old School Spirograph with a Modern Upgrade & Travel Friendly
Spirographs are just old school cool. I wasn't sure what to expect with this latest creation but it is a very different type of Spirograph but still very cool. There is no paper- you draw on an LCD screen which can help create very cool effects. The listing mentions that it is digital (which is accurate) but there is no paper, app, internet connectivity, or way to actually save a design you make. There is a small compartment in the side of the device to hold all the wheels and the stylus which is very cool. There is a lock function to pause the writing on the screen and you can easily erase with the push of a button. There are a few areas that could be improved to make this a 5 star product: - The battery compartment has a tiny screw to secure it. If you lose the screw or don't tighten down the screw, the back *will* fall off. A potentially minor issue but annoying nonetheless. If you are travelling and need to replace the batteries, it might be tough to have to also have a screw driver - The actual design wheels almost completely fill the drawing space which can make some of the designs a little hard to maneuver through. - Some of the shapes and sizes of the stencils is really small and detailed but that detail doesn't necessarily come through given the broad tip of the stylus. Overall, this is a really cool toy for kids or adults that is modern but still captures the essence of the old school toy. I hope they consider making this in a larger size!

IT'S GENIUS
Move over adult coloring books and adult sticker books! Mama just found a new meditative activity! The first thing I noticed about this new Spirograph is that it's quite small. The work area is only around the size of a large Spirograph circle, and that turns out to be the entire point. This is unlike any Spirograph set I've ever seen. First, there's no paper. You draw directly on the LCD screen. For better or worse, that means that you will not have endless Spirograph paper creations lying about. You can still save your work, but only until the next time you decide to use it. Second, the circle slots right onto the screen. You rotate the circle right within notches on the unit itself. It's extraordinarily clever – and explains the small size. It's very meditative and therapeutic. I'll be keeping it. I may let my kids borrow it. It's also very compact. Everything fits right into a compartment in the unit itself. Batteries are required (not included); you can not clear the screen without them. TWO FLAWS: First, everything was jammed into the internal compartment so well that it took me considerable effort to dislodge it. Second, according to the directions, you should not be able to draw on the screen when the unit is in LOCK mode. I tested this repeatedly. I can definitely draw on the screen whether it is in LOCK or UNLOCK mode. I just can't press the erase button in LOCK mode. BOTTOM LINE: Love it!

ok toy
spirograph only comes with large circles with irregular shapes which was a bit difficult and frustrating for my 4 year old. does not come with any of the smaller circles found in the original spirograph aaa batteries are required to erase your drawings there is a black/grey screen with a rainbow screen underneath. using your stylus or fingertip, you press down on the top screen to reveal the rainbow screen underneath. the lock button only prevents you from erasing your drawing, it does not prevent you from drawing over it
