Near-Perfect Travel Mug
If you’re reading this review, I bet you’re like me. You drink coffee 7 days a week. Or maybe tea is your game. Or, for something really different, you prefer some type of ice-cold awesomeness. Regardless, five days a week you’re away from home, and you need a way to transport that nothing-else-tastes-like-it home brew to where you’re going. You want your hot drinks hot and your cold drinks cold. Because accidents happen, you want something that won’t spill if you tip it. And it would also be nice if it was easy to disassemble and clean. When I began looking for a travel mug I started with one from Target. It did a great job of eliminating spills, but it couldn’t be disassembled for cleaning, and it also doubled as a great hand warmer in the wintertime. Wait . . . that means all that coffee heat is getting sucked right through the mug, and half an hour after filling it, I’m drinking lukewarm coffee! So I kept looking for the perfect mug. Now you’re looking for one, and let me tell you, friend, you’ve come to the right place. I’ve had this Thermos mug for nearly a year now. If you want the quick review, here it is: Buy this mug. You’ll be glad you did. It filled my three must-have requirements, and I’m sure it will fill yours too. If you want the full play-by-play, everything that follows should help you make up your mind. Insulating Capability Thermos claims that this mug will keep hot drinks hot for 5 hours, and cold drinks cold for 9 hours. That’s fine, but when possible, I like to look at hard numbers, so I ran the following experiment. I put a tea kettle on the stove, heated it until it whistled, then filled my room temperature mug. I took the water temperature with my Weber Instant Read Thermometer, and then screwed on the lid. For the next 12 hours, on the hour, I unscrewed the lid, took the temperature, recorded it, and screwed the lid back on. Just for kicks, I also took the temperature a full 24 hours later. The results were (all temps given in Fahrenheit): 8:00AM--203 degrees F (Immediately after filling mug.) 9:00 -- 188 10:00 -- 177 11:00 -- 169 12:00 -- 162 (This is the temperature my Mr. Coffee pumps out.) 1:00 -- 154 2:00 -- 147 3:00 -- 142 4:00 -- 137 5:00 -- 132 6:00 -- 127 7:00 -- 124 8:00 -- 120 8:00 AM Day 2 -- 95 Of course, this isn’t a perfect real-world test. For one thing, your coffee is most likely not going to be entering your mug at 203F. For another, you’re going to be drinking from the mug throughout the day. That will rob the coffee’s power of specific heat, and it will therefore cool down faster. However, it should give you a general idea of the insulating capability—even if you’re a sipper, your drink will be close to the temperature it started at even several hours later. I’ve never put a cold drink in this mug, so I can’t speak to its cold-insulating capability. However, I can’t imagine it would be measurably different from its heat-insulating capability. (One tip: Whether you’re keeping hot or cold beverages in this mug, it’s a good idea to “prime” it first. What I mean by that is this: For hot beverages, first fill the mug with boiling water. Screw on the lid, let it sit for five minutes, then dump out the water and fill with your beverage of choice. For cold beverages, first fill it with ice water, or even toss the mug into your freezer for a while. One thing to note in the temperature chart above is that the greatest one-hour temperature drop occurred in the very first hour. That’s because the hot water lost some of its temperature in warming up the room temperature mug. Heat (or cool) the mug up first, and you won’t experience that temperature transfer.) The Tumbler The tumbler is made of a double-wall insulated stainless steel body. It is 7.5 inches tall and weighs 10.6 ounces (14.6 with the lid). Keep the height of the tumbler in mind if you plan to use this with some type of Keurig system—it JUST fits under the one at my place of work. The Lid The lid disassembles into 5 pieces: the main body, a ring gasket, a plastic disc, a small gasket, and a cap which locks everything together. It disassembles and reassembles very easily. The only trouble you may have is which direction to orient the ring gasket. One side is smooth, and the other is peaked. It’s this peaked side which mates with the plastic disc to create the seal described below. An included hook is handy for hanging tea bags. There are 2 holes on opposite sides of the lid. While liquid is exiting from one, air is entering the other, making for a smooth pour. However, with this style of opening, be aware that this might happen to you: You grab the mug in the dark or without looking, and tip it to drink. Unfortunately the holes are lined up left-right instead of up-down, and coffee pours down your neck. This has happened a few times to me. If you pay attention to the orientation of the openings, it won’t happen to you. Cleaning Cleaning the tumbler is simple—soapy water and a bottle brush will do the job. As for the lid, the gaskets, disc, and cap are all relatively easy to clean, and can be completely cleaned if you have the time and willingness. The cap is the tiniest and most difficult part to clean—there are some corners and angles you may need to use a q-tip on. The main body of the lid which contains the spring for the push button operation cannot be disassembled. Because of that you’ll see some staining/particles in spots that are hard to get to. How much that bothers you is up to you. I’ve ran mine through the dishwasher to take care of this, with moderate success. “Spill-Proofness” The operation of the mug is simple. There is a button in the center of the lid. One push ‘opens’ the lid; another ‘closes’ it. In effect, what is happening is that you are creating or closing a gap between the plastic disc and a rubber gasket. While this system works flawlessly, it’s difficult to near impossible to look at the mug and know whether or not it’s open. After a while, you’ll be able to tell by the sound of the push button click whether you are opening or closing the mug, but not at first—the only sure way to tell will be to tip it and see if anything comes out. When the lid is assembled correctly, screwed on tight, and closed, it is completely spill proof. Tip it, drop it, or chuck it—no liquid is coming out of the tumbler. I did say tumbler and not lid for a reason—it is possible (and it will probably happen often) that liquid will remain in the interior of the lid after the mug is push-button closed. Tipping the mug at this point will result in whatever liquid is trapped coming out. If you want to be super-spill-safe, push-button it closed, tip and sip any remaining liquid, and you’re good to go. Some Negatives and Resolution There were a few issues I had with the mug within the first few months of purchasing it. All had to do with the lid, one was my fault, and all were either minor issues or were resolved. 1. The paint on the chrome band (the ring between the lid and tumbler) began flaking. This detracted from the appearance, but that wasn’t my issue with it. The paint didn’t just flake off. Flakes lifted, bent, and remained partly attached, and let me tell you, those flakes were SHARP! I had a habit of holding the tumbler in one hand and gripping it around the band, then twisting back and forth. Those sharp paint flakes cured me of that quickly. I ended up with tiny cuts all over my fingers. 2. The band is not metal; it’s made of plastic and painted chrome. If you drop this mug and it hits directly on the band, the band will break. I know this because I did it. The lid being band-less affects nothing but appearance. It will not cause the mug to leak or lose insulating properties. 3. The inner threads of the lid began breaking. It wasn’t enough to cause the mug to leak, but there were substantial portions of the threading breaking off. Now, keeping in mind the above issues, you may wonder why I rate this mug so highly. Here’s why: I ca

Hands down the best thermos ever!
This thermos will keep your drinks cool for the whole day in a regular home environment, and that is even without the lid. I can keep it in the car in the summer without the lid and it’ll still be relatively cool when I come back say from watching a movie or something for example, or going to the store. It will keep your hot drinks hot for a very long time as well. This is much better than any other thermos I own or have owned, including the yeti ones. In fact, it blows the yeti ones out of the water and I do own 3 of them which were much higher priced. The only two knocks I have is that we did have a bronze one and the paint peeled off, and so I recommend just get the stainless steel version. The other knock is that the lid is a little tricky to clean, and I wish they just had a normal lid like the yeti ones do with the magnet. Another thing I really like is that it is thin circumference, so it is very easy to hold, and fit into cupholders versus some of the other ones like the yeti are very wide and could conceivably be easier to lose your Grip on. I absolutely love these thermoses and will be buying more, I highly recommend them an amazing price for such a high-quality item!

The trick to drinking from this!
This is my favorite tea thermos. Keeps things almost too hot to drink for hours. As far as making sure it is closed, I just click it a few times. You can hear and feel which way is closed. I read a lot of reviews about how there are only two spots that the liquid comes out of. There is an easy way to line it up - make sure the logo at the bottom is facing you when you drink from it.

Worth every cent
I don't leave many reviews, but for this, I'll take the time. My search for the perfect coffee cup ended when my husband gifted me this travel tumbler. I'd been "stay at home" with the kids for many years and tried many mugs. THIS one saved me from the "pour the cup & take a sip- emergency diaper change-only a bath will take care of this one-olders need a snack...and then a band-aid-bottle for baby-second sip of coffee is COLD" scenario. It keeps drinks hot or cold for what seemed like miraculously long to me. I sang a hallelujah the first time I used it. NEVER has leaked after several years. I lost my original one, and now was so glad to find the exact model here to replace it. NOW, I fill it at home, and drink it mid afternoon STILL HOT! I can toss it in my bag and even if it ends up upside down for a few hours, it doesn't leak. It is also DISHWASHER safe!!! The only drawbacks are: it is sometimes difficult to see where the drinking opening is while driving, and the button to release the seal can be a bit loud in certain situations. However, those are extremely minor for me. I LOVE THIS!

Fits in Tesla cup holders...
This review exists for basically only one purpose: for future Tesla owners who drink coffee. TL;DR: this cup fits in Tesla coffee cup holders. Model Y, Model X? Both fit. This mug isn't as nice as the "Thermos 14 Ounce Vacuum Insulated Stainless Steel Lever Operated Lid Tumbler", which has long since been discontinued but it's quite good (if anyone at Thermos is listening, the "Thermos 14 Ounce Vacuum Insulated Stainless Steel Lever Operated Lid Tumbler" was the best lid configuration ever made and it would be awesome if it were resurrected).

Quality travel mug
The THERMOS 16 Ounce Vacuum Insulated Stainless Steel Travel Tumbler, is a well made quality item, it feels like it will last a long time! No leakage, stays hot or cold for long time and easy to clean! This mug has an easy to take apart mechanism, with removable seals that allow you to easily clean everything. The outside of the mug stays cool to the touch no matter how hot the liquid inside it is. It seems a bit difficult to tighten the lid when new, but I think it will be easier after some time. Also, it is very difficult to tell by sight whether the lid is opened or closed. Finally, do not overfill. Overall, this is a good mug!

Works great, but one minor issue
Because the lid is black, it’s hard to tell how it’s oriented, which makes it difficult to drink out of while driving. Had to etch a mark on the lid to indicate where the spout is.

Amazing thermos, keeps temperatures STEADY all day long
This is the best thermos I have ever purchased, even after over a year and a half (purchased January 2017.) I'll start with my ONLY complaint: If you close the lid when the "screwy" part of the lid or bottle is even a little wet, then the lid can be VERY hard to take off. This is because of how tightly it fits - which is great - but the material this part is made out of feels sort of like suction when waters gets in between, so opening it can be tough. So, make sure you don't fill it too much or pour messily. The quality of the bottle is amazing. It keeps things hot way longer than advertised. If I make hot tea at 7:30 in the morning and put it in this thermos, it's still nearly too hot to drink at the end of my day around 3pm. I was incredibly impressed. The same goes for cold liquid - if you put ice in here, it would take a pretty hot day for it to melt. I didn't think I would like the top of the bottle - the little button you push to open or close - but I actually do. It's super easy, and even though the entire top of the bottle is round and sort of like a pool, there are only two small slits - one on either opposite side - where the liquid can come out of, so it isn't messy like I thought it might be. The only thing I will say is that pressing the button to open or close makes a popping sound, so you can't be discreet about it in a quiet room. Overall, amazing thermos, worth the money (and I NEVER spend so much money on things like this.)

Great traveller, keeps it hot, no spills!
I bought this to replace an old Nissan Thermos which was awesome, but the lid got damaged so it didn't hold the heat as well as before. This was a great choice. It keeps my coffee hot, longer than my old. In fact a hot chocolate, or coffee stays hot in it for 4 hours and it still very warm after 6. Pretty amazing actually. It looks and feels great. Cleaning is a little more work than my previous, but it's not too bad. There are more parts (5 for the lid), that I'm not sure I want to put in the dishwasher. My one complaint is the unprotected bottom. The previous mug had a plastic covered bottom which protected it from denting on drops. This could use something like that. I've dented mine already and now it has a little wobble on the bottom, which is annoying. One other (minor) thing is that it's hard to see the sip holes on the black lid, which isn't great for driving if you have to look to make sure you won't spill on each sip. A little mark or a dimple you could feel for with your hands or lip would be a nice touch. To sum up, it's a 5-star traveller. Probably the best out there. Pros: - Keeps it hot! - No spills (fully sealed when closed) - Overall design and feel - Good size - Tea hook Cons: - Cleaning effort - No rubber bumper on the bottom

Keeps things cold forever ok not forever but along long time or warm all day
Used for coffee and ice cold drinks both work really well and for long periods of time, weak point is the plastic silver band that separated the lid from the container broke off but still works without it. Great purchase

I’ve got 1 it was flawless until I dropped it started leaking after that
It’s as advertised, keeps my coffee hot for more then 8 hours in -40 below on jacket pocket, I’ve had my mug for over ten years it still works but has started leaking after I dropped it, it’s flawless for sure worth the money and then some, I just bought two, I’m storing one and using one, just to make sure I have backup cause these deadly mugs are hard to come by, they last so long and tough, got it in the mail, the company that package the mugs need to add more packing materials the mugs were not secured property, but fortunately there no real damage to the mugs just scuff marks on one mug, please package your items better

The best brand you can get
I love this brand so much. I had another one for 6 years and it’s still in good shape. I forgot it somewhere so ordered this one so I could have two. So durable, keeps temperature hot or cold for a long time, pretty, doest leak and easy to clean. Will stick with the brand for life.
