It works and priced well, but brass parts/plating and finishing is C+
To start, I do not know where you can find a new working locking mechanism this cheap with door knobs keys and screws. The locking mechanism itself can probably go for the price this whole kit is. I needed them for a much older house that had door that are 1-1/8" thick (most doors are 1-3/8"+). What was harder was finding them stocked, only Amazon had them ready to ship, The kit itself can easily be installed by most DIYers, that is if you want it to just work. If you are the kind of DIYer/Handyman, like myself, that wants it to have minimal gaps and work smoothly, then this has to be installed 90, perfectly centered, even at both ends, screws tightened to the right amount (possibly spacers too), and so on. Essentially, one would need to know how it works/functions. I can shoot a video of how-to if the company wants to sponsor me :P The things, I did not like. The brass plating is sub par. I would rate it C+ at best. Even when pulling the protective sticker, left over residue slightly modified the plating. The finishing of the brass parts/cleaning of the edges are C-, one *could get cut. That said, the slightly sharp edges, I just finished off with a plastic stick to tone down the edges. Even the plating on the screws are meh. As I said before, it is hard to beat the price for this kit. Let alone a manufacturer that makes these still. Just see the brass parts, screws and key as freebies. Would I suggest to a friend? Yes, but give the details. Do not forget pre-drill pilot holes, and it cant hurt to use a self-centering bit for the rosettes.

Important parts missing
This lock came sealed in new packaging and fit perfectly, replacing a 40+ year old lock that was an exact copy. However, neither of the new knobs came with set screws, making the unit useless. The set screws from the old knobs are slightly larger than the holes in the new knobs, so i had to use the old knobs in the new lock. See the picture included. I will try to contact the seller, but don’t really want to return the whole thing just for two tiny set screws. This is a QA issue at the factory.

The Lock I Received is Totally Reversible
I needed 2 x RH and 1 x LH Rim Locksets for my 1910 Farm House. I took a chance and ordered 3 of these RH sets as I could not find any LH sets. I opened the first lock I was pleased to find that reversing the lock was as simple as flipping over the bolt and cam. The only difference is that the screw to remove the cover of the lock faces the door as it comes as a RH lock, when reversed the screw faces out. While I had the lock open I took the opportunity to lubricate all parts with white grease on the recommendation of other reviewers. The action is smooth and the feel is solid. I also lubricated the others that I did not reverse. I am extremely pleased with this purchase.

They're OK with some work
This is my first ever review and I'm writing it in the hopes it will save someone all the frustration I went through before I got these things to work. I bought seven of these for some board and batten doors I'm making for my new home. First the good news... they look pretty good and the price is definitely right. The faux brass of the hardware is kind of cheesy looking but I painted mine black and it looks great. So overall I'm very pleased with the look and price, and how they work once I was through fiddling with them. Now for the bad. I wouldn't bother with these if you're not handy and mechanically inclined. First off depending on which way you mount the lock you have to take it apart and flip the bolt over. This is no big deal but the bolt has a wishbone shape on the hidden end that has little tabs that engage with the thing that pulls it back when you turn the handle. The tabs on the bottom end up on the top when you flip it and they are longer. When you put the lock back together and tighten the face plate back down the tabs bind and the bolt won't slide in and out. You need to grind the tabs down to the same length as the ones on the other side for it to work. Also while you're grinding the tabs you should work on the other end of the bolt. The bolt is tapered with a straight 45 degree angle unlike the curved face of the bolt on all standard door hardware. You have to close the door really hard (slam shut) or the bolt won't retract when it hits the striker and the door just bounces back open. Grinding the bolts angled face till it's curved solves this problem. You can use an angle grinder, or I just used a random orbit sander with course paper. You might also want to grind a little off the end tip corners as I had a couple that would retract but then catch once inside on the top or bottom of the opening. I can set one of these up in about five minutes now but it took a lot of head scratching and trial and error before I got it all figured out. I'm going to buy two more of these because of the price and they really do look good for the money. Just be aware that they aren't a plug and play deal. If you're buying these you're probably aware that you'll have to mortise out your door trim for the striker plate part but I thought I'd mention it. Mine was easy because I was able to mount the lock before the trim went on. I'm really happy and I saved a boatload of money. The locks look great.... but it wasn't simple. Hope this helps those that buy these in the future.

overall pleased
We have a century home where most of the locksets in our house are mounted on the doors instead of inside of them. We were able to replace 3 locksets and for 2 of them it worked out fine. The third one got stuck and we needed to take it off.

Easy and good quality
So easy to install. Well worth the money. Do undersatnd it is a mounted system not INSIDE the door. No need to cut into the door itself. I was replacing a very old identical mechanism.

Not worth it
I have bought this unit to replace a real old rim lock on a door of a old house. The thing is that the metal gauge is so thin that you can't screw the unit tight without preventing the knob to turn. In other words, the unit needs to stay slack on the door to allow the mecanism to work properly. Otherwise, the mecanism get stuck most of the time so you can even get stuck in the room. The metal is so cheap that the screw holes broke a little (they got oval), so that I can't send back the unit for refund. Don't waste your time and money on this.

Perfect for what I was looking for
Perfect imitation of the antique look. Can be used for both left and right hung doors but left will go upside down. It still looks good though

You get what you pay for!
Nice look. Door knobs look cheap so I substituted antique porcelain knobs. I had to switch the latch but the quality of the latch wasn't conducive to just turning it over as the instructions state. Benefit is the thrifty price but a reconditioned vintage lock at three times the price would be better value. I had to send the first one back because I was sent another type.
