excellent and easy for repairing an old lamp!

I just got this from amazon (yay prime shipping) today and am very pleased. I have a pair of lamps in my bedroom and for the past 2 + years one has been constantly shorting out. Haven't even been able to use it for over a year because it would blow out bulbs as soon as I would replace them. I didn't want to have to spend $$ on a new pair of lamps, and this pair was expensive and nice. I figured it already doesn't work, I'll try to rewire it. I found a helpful video on youtube for rewiring a lamp so I could figure out how to take apart the old lamp and the rest was pretty easy to do. I didn't even need all the parts in the kit because the bottom half of the wiring was fine so I didn't replace it. Very easy, and now I have 2 working bedroom lamps. Thanks amazon! Oh, a tip- when pushing the wires through your old lamp base twist the twist tie from the cord around the ends and stick it up so that you have something to help guide the wires through the last few inches of your base out the top. This will make sense when you have the kit and try it without :).

My antique lamp saved!

I have never done rewireing of a lamp before. This kit was a complete success I was able to save an old antique lamp that my husband wanted me to trash because the switch went. I have it a four compared to a five because there were no paper instructions included. It had a picture on back package with very fine print that was hard to read so me being the novice I was missed a washer and at my first attempt I had a working wobbly lamp. Once I realized the error of my way I had to disassemble and reassemble with washer and "Wa la" a working stable lamp!! So only for the lack of clear printed large print instructions do I give this a four star other wise five and I would highly recommend to fix any lamp that you desire to save.

Quality product

I purchased this so i could bring an old ugly light fixture, that has been in my family for a long time, back to life and give it the ability to hold a bigger shade. More important than that, the wiring was brittle and VERY old lol, and this did a great job replacing it. This may have been a simple purchase but it has allowed me to keep something in my family that has been in the household of 2-3 generations of family members, and make it my own. On top of that, it's a sturdy and quality product that is holding up very well so far. Will be purchasing more for other projects.

The quality of this repair kit was poor. Thought that a "recognizable" product such as Westinghouse would be better than a run of the mill brand. Costs were pretty much in line. Although Westinghouse is located mainly in the US., this product had Made In Viet Nam on the packaging. I suppose that is the way that most things go these days to cut costs, but I know that chances are good, I won't purchase anything else made by Westinghouse. Sadly, as the parts were made so poorly, I reused what I could from my previous lamp and therefor only used the cord in this product. All other pieces were terrible in comparison to my prior parts. So, in essence, I paid for a new cord here. Even the switch which must carry the UL approval, was shoddy and cheap and didn't feel correct in moving from on/off Please, do yourselves a favor and either look elsewhere or go to a store to look over products like this.

Great little kit, but no instructions on how to wire (be careful!)

Great little kit. I have a past time of turning various liquor bottles and this is a wonderful kit to have. It contains all the necessary pieces for you to create a lamp. With all the necessary electrical components and mounting points for most types of lamp shades that are available for sale. And this kit isn't very expensive. One word of caution, this kit does not give proper wiring instructions! Please note that when connecting the wires to the seat of the lightbulb or the socket of the lightbulb, there is a 'gold' side (it's actually brass) and a 'silver' side. And for the wires, there is a smooth and ribbed wire. It is important in this case to connect the smooth wire to the 'gold' side and the ribbed one to the 'silver' side. Reversing this may cause damage and is just dangerous. You can also google these same instructions when you're ready to wire the lamp (which is what I strongly recommend you do if this is the first time you're doing something like this).

Fixed our lamp right up - cheaper than in-store, and arrived quickly. Very high quality and easy to follow instructions. We replaced a very old lamp that had a frayed connection, so we feel so much safer now.
