Tuffer than most

This brand, Apex Ultra, is stronger than the multitude of similar looking splitters; I bought this one because I'd misplaced my first one that is still going strong (duh, I found it). I use a probe (like a broken-off toothpick) to adjust the pill to center and lower the top slowly to touch pill: then squeeze/hold the axis-joint slightly to assure smooth operation and giv'er a whack > this works on BIG tough pills as well as those expensive little ones that are hard to center. The sidewalls of the APEX platform are sturdier & don't split away from the base like the similar looking cheapo I got at a big box store.

Non-slip surface makes aligning pills easy

I have tried other pill splitter with limited success. To get proper dosage from the pieces, the pill needs correct positioning of the pill cut line for the splitter blade. The surface of this pill splitter holds the pill in place due to the rougher surface. So you do not get pills moving every time the splitter or blade moves. Of a clean split depends on the make up of the pill. Some pills will crumble somewhat because of the powdery contents. But this splitter worked the best of any relatively inexpensive ones I have tried. Split a hundred pills so far with less than 10% crumbled. Note the correct technique is to press the top (blade) slowly to just touching the pill, then pound down in a quick split.

Great at cutting bills, but add tape to bottom of it

This cuts very cleanly including larger tablets and it is heavy duty. I only gave it 4 stars for 'easy to use' because there are gaps on the bottom that small pills can fall through. if they drop on a clean counter or extremely clean floor or you can find them you're all set, but that doesn't always happen. There is an easy fix for it. Just add clear packing tape or any tape across the bottom under open part. Most prescription medications are too expensive to let disappear.

It works but

I feel like this does the job but I can't figure out why sometimes the pill stays put, sometimes the pieces fly out of the bottom or back of the device. Sometimes they go to the right and into the little box. One time the plastic sheet even slid out and launched a pill. Just have to make sure to always use over a counter so they don't get launched into oblivion. It sometimes breaks into uneven or more than 2 parts.

Satisfied with durability

I've had this for 1 year and 3 months. I use it to cut zinc tablets about 3 times a week. It still works well. The blade may be a little duller than it used to be, but I have no issues.
