NOT a Paid Review.. but One Awesome New Hedge Trimmer from Black+Decker the LHT341FF 40volt
OMG !!! Seriously? .. I don't know where to start. Wait; yes I do! That piece of #*%@ Poulan gas-engine, hedge trimmer that I bought 5 years ago. Ran fine for the first two years, and then, after 2 trips to the repair shop in the last 2-1/2 years, it still will not start and run right. And as I got older, that 15lbs of machine (not including fuel), was kickin' my behind. I have 9 large shrubs along my driveway. With the Poulan, I could do one, maybe 1-1/2 before having to take a break! So, in exasperation, i took to Amazon in search for a small miracle.. and found it by gosh! I'm old school, so i don't have to tell you that my level of skepticism was quite high... surely a Battery-powered Hedge Trimmer could not do the hard work of a gas-engine unit. > I could NOT have been more wrong.. and surprised! I saw a lot of great reviews on the smaller 20 volt models, and thought; what about the String Trimmers? Well, they had equally good reviews. Then I researched further at the Black-Decker website, finding that they had a new, 40volt, 24" Hedge Trimmer... yea, MORE POWER! As it turns out, the String trimmer is only $129 ~ with a Battery. Hello! the battery by itself is $85, so for a few bucks more, you get the String Trimmer, and have two, interchangeable Batteries! Let me tell ya, after an hour of Hedge Trimming (and these things were in dire need of a Trim), I kept expecting the Battery to start dying. And keep in mind that LI-ion Batteries need several charge-discharge cycles before reaching full capacity. Well, it didn't die, and I was still up for more since the LHT341FF weighs just over 7lbs. So, I kept going, and so did my new hedge trimmer. To my amazement, I finished all 9 shrubs in the front, and two more in the back yard with just that one Battery!!! And let me tell you that it cut through those heavy shrubs just as well as the Poulan (WHEN IT WAS RUNNING). I was like a proud New Father with my new toy! Every time one of the neighbors would drive by, I would make sure that they could see that there was NO Power Cord hanging off the back of this Bad Boy! I have not yet tried out the String Trimmer, but if it's half as good as the Hedge Trimmer, I'll be one Happy Camper! Oh yea.. let it be known that I bought and paid Full-price for this equipment! This is Not one of those Hyped reviews that we see so many now.

Quit working but replaced quickly
After the second season of very light use, the blade jammed and could not be repaired without extensive overhaul. The battery failed at the same time. Used to trim about 20 ft of hedge with small branches twice before failure. When it is working it works well and the replacement service from B&D was great!

Sometimes you get what you pay for - this is one of those times
UPDATE 7/26/2020: Well, my hedger has started showing clear signs it's nearing the great cleared backyard in the sky. Four great seasons of plenty of mileage on the motor. I'm going to buy another and I'll update with comparisons; quite a few negative reviews here have me a little worried they don't make em like they used to. ORIGINAL REVIEW MAY 2016: I've been on the hunt for a while for a hedger that had the cutting power to stand up to high density bushes and branches, not just for shaping and maintaining but also cutting down the exceptionally thick stuff as necessary. Having it be cordless was a high priority, since I usually spent 20% of my time keeping the cord away from the cutters or avoiding tangles in where I worked. After looking through what was available and the usual suspects of Amazon sales, I started to wonder if a truly effective & cost-effective cordless hedge trimmer didn't exist. This is the answer to all of that. The POWERCUT mode is astoundingly tough. The battery life is seemingly unending no matter what I throw at this. The battery recharges faster than I thought possible. I had a corded Black & Decker hedge trimmer, and other Black & Decker appliances, but compared to those this is in a whole different class. My other products are great, bordering on excellent, and so the price of this had me leery - could it be worth it? Should I look into the high-end ones from brands like DeWalt, Makita, or WORX? I took a chance based on the few reviews I could find for this model, and it paid off. My routine has become 1.) Cut through everything that stands in my way. 2.) In the event of a jam-up, check to make sure I'm not stuck on a fence or something non-organic. 3.) Activate POWERCUT and make quick work of whatever is there. 4.) Release POWERCUT and resume (1).

An outstanding product in every way
Wow! Never have I expected so little and got so much. By way of background, I already had a Little Wonder corded trimmer, an Earthwise 2 in 1 extendable corded trimmer, and an Earthwise small hand battery trimmer/edger. All are wonderful for their intended purposes so it seemed a bit extravagant to buy yet another hedge trimmer. Yet here I am, going for this battery powered trimmer, just to avoid the hassle of all the extension cords. I didn't expect much power but I was totally surprised by its performance. I read the data and reviews for the B&D 20 and 40 volts, then stumbled upon this one that cost a bit more but seemed to impress others with the battery strength and Power Boost feature. I couldn’t be happier with the purchase. I just finished my 20 foot maple hedge with plenty of battery life left over. It is strong enough that I will probably use it on my 50 foot evergreen hedge, which I did not anticipate doing. The battery charged so fast I thought I was misreading the light signals. You can't go wrong with this trimmer. UPDATE: It just got better. I searched for a blade cover with no luck, so I called Black and Decker. The agent told me that part was not listed for this model. She then took the time to search their inventory and found a 24" blade cover that works perfectly, and for a very reasonable price. Thanks B&D.

Motor died after 3 uses
All was well until it died on the third use. Motor starting smoking after perhaps 20 mins of running on that third cut. Complete garbage! I probably cut enough hedge to offset the cost of hiring someone to cut it, so if you're looking to do some free labour buy this trimmer!
