Love the room, but could be better.
We purchased this item a week ago and used it for the 4th of July weekend. We bought the correct size for our awning, but my husband didn't realize that the extra piece(made to insert for 17' awnings) was not needed in the assembly because we have a 16 ft awning. He added the extra piece which caused quite a disaster when it rained. Water came pouring in through one of the corners and flooded the room. Thankfully i was awake to get the situation under control. We purchased this room for extra space and so our cats would have an open place to play at night when we sleep. That did not work in our favor at all. We had a huge rainstorm and i had to evacuate the cats to the RV along with other items. I used 2 -5 gallon buckets to catch the rain and about 6 towels to try to hold back the water from flooding the whole room. I switched the buckets out 5 or 6 times because it rained for almost 12 straight hours. It was a complete nightmare. The next day we were able to get outside and dry up the mess and take the extention piece out. We found that was the problem all along. The directions were not very clear on assembly, so my husband didn't realize that the piece was to be omitted. I didn't even think to tell him that the room was made for 16 or 17 ft. awnings. It was only after the room flooded that i figured out what we had done. I'm glad we bought the room, but one complaint that i have is, i think that the corners could have better covering so that rain does not get inside. Even with it properly assembled, rain can still drizzle in through the back 2 corners closest to the vehicle. Also, you have to be really careful when putting stakes in the ground to hold it because the seems of the straps that hold it down can rip. Don't pull it too taunt or this will happen. The other thing is the skirting that comes with it. it's just vinyl type material that you have to cut and attach to the side of the vehicle. I would have preferred something a little more sturdy to keep pets from being able to escape. They didn't get out, but it wouldn't take much for them to figure it out. The cuts you have to make to go around the steps creates a lot of openings so you really have to get creative with it to add extra protection. We used command Velcro strips to attach it to our vehicle instead of the 3m sticky tape that came with the hardware. that seemed to work fine, but not in the areas where rain could get to it around the top edges. The other thing is that it would have been good if it had window coverings on the inside, not just the out side. I really wish also that this thing had a built in floor. but i guess there was no way to do that when it's being made for so many different sizes. One thing we did is put a tarp down on the inside before we put the outdoor rug down. this helped keep water from coming in through the floor when it rained. This was definitely a learning experience!!

Great Product, but requires some work to make it, it do what it's suppose to.
I really like the product, But putting it up by yourself is a real bear. I have read the other reviews and people saying they put it up in 10 or 15 min. I find those greatly exaggerated, I put it up the first time and it took me 2 hours to make all the adjustments so it fit and sealed like it was suppose to, this included mounting and cutting the skirt to fit properly. I then took it down and reinstalled it 4 different times. The best I could do was 45 min. putting it up. Taking it down took only 10 min with another 10 for folding it properly to get it back into the bag. Just returned from my first camping trip with the room. I camp in the desert SW California. I have already installed small stainless steel bolts w/ washers on each side (for strength) on the skirt mounting tabs. They work fine until it get hot, then they fall off. Didn't have any real winds this trip 10 to 15 mph max. Room held up fine, Found in the soft soil and sand over there you need longer anchors, they need at least 16in to hold in the sand even in a light wind like we had. I made mine from #5 rebar galvanized coated. Am looking at installing the same system I had with my homemade canvas room on my last RV. There are stainless steel twist-locks sets that can be bought and installed on both the RV and the material of the room. Unfortunately, the ones mounted on the rv do require screws being used. To get those side sealing pads to work, I installed eye bolts to the frame of the trailer to get enough tension to seal the room to the sides of the trailer. Tried the suggestion to drive anchors in the ground, but all they did was pull loose when I put enough tension on the straps to seal the sides. Found the eye blots worked great. Don't really believe they will hold up in a heavy wind though. I do recommend this product though, yes there's some work that needs to be done to make it work, but it is worth the effort.

Extend your camping season WELL into the Fall!
Without duplicating some of the other reviews, I do want to touch on a few personal observations after purchasing this for my 5th wheel. So, off to the races... 1) It takes a bit to sort out the 'puzzle pieces', so suggest you lay them all out on the grass or your basement to understand what you are working with. The instructions are not great (see also: not with pictures for dummies) so you need to conceptualize how it all fits together and the best way to do that is to lay it all out IMO 2) The quality is excellent, like a high end tent fabric that doesn't feel thin or cheap 3) Once installed, it will take a bit to make it "perfectly" fit your application, in my case I plan to customize how the sides attach to the trailer. While the generic velcro solution is ok, I think there is a better answer to be had. Not sure what that looks like yet but if you are buying this to be out of the box air and rain tight to the side of your trailer you may be disappointed. 4) The total vertical length is 'too long' but Carefree devised a neat solution, which is to provide slots to put your pegs into the ground so you can use this on uneven ground and then I rolled up the excess to create a tidy seam on the ground. 5) Once installed, you literally feel like you've added an extra room to your rig. In my application, I can now hang all my fishing gear after a day on the river, process fish, BBQ and stay warm and dry without stepping foot inside and dragging in all the mess, mud & smell. This is a great product to extend the summer camping season well into the Fall. 4 star rating reflects strong overall satisfaction on my purchase with opportunity to improve the installation instructions and that this pushed $500. You can get some remarkable tents for half the price and while I realize this is a specialty application in the end it's a bunch of fabric with zippers that is cookie cutter assembled to work to fit various lengths of awning rails...

Safety measures required
LOVE IT. So easy to set up but make sure you also add some wind safety measures. We set this up on our 5th wheel at a bush work camp. Within two days of setting it up, we quickly realized that without heavy duty wind precautions, we were going to damage or even loose the awning as well as the tent. Because we were already in the bush, we had to quickly MacGyver things. We used the old tent's adjustable poles to prevent the wind from pushing the awning down and then used heavy ropes to anchor it down to surrounding equipment. Since the tent pegs that came with the kit were getting pulled out of the ground by the wind, we replaced them with sand bags. Once secured in this matter, we no longer had to worry about wind and were able to keep it up for 3 months straight. After doing some research, I came across another product: CAREFREE R019399-001 RV Awning Stabiliz'R Kit. I wish the company would simply add this to the tent as a complete kit or at least warn that it as a must have add-on. Finally, we did have some difficulties with sealing the tent against the wall, both vertically and horizontally. The straps don't stay tight so we need to work on MacGyering something else for that next year. Maybe some kind of awning tracks can be installed? The problem with that is if you decide to change your RV, you may have caused depreciation if someone else doesn't want an awning tent?

Super easy to set up, perfect for rain, not for bugs.
Very impressed with the screen room, I set it up myself in about 15 minutes, it's very easy to install. My only issue is that it won't keep out bugs as the sides don't attach to the trailer other than velcro to an included strip that simply hangs down the side, also the top clips to the awning, so again, nothing to stop bugs, but it keeps out the rain perfectly. I may add two sided velcro the top and to the trailer to attach it to and see if I can't seal it up better to keep out bugs. Otherwise, good quality, looks great, but find a youtube video to watch before setting it up, the instructions aren't that easy to understand. Watch a video once and you'll have it up in no time.
