The joints are weak when threaded together. A heavier gauge would solve this.

Fantastic Task Lighting
My wife does a lot of knitting. She is really good at it, but she has trouble counting stitches and dropping stitches once in a while as she has trouble seeing with the lamps we have in the house. But no more! This DAYLIGHT task light is simply awesome. As they said, it can be focused to a 3 inch spotlight, or spread to a two or three foot wide area light, just by slipping the lens down or up on the adjustment cylinder. The adjustment is one of those things that surprised me: It isn't threaded, or pneumatic, or anything fancy. The focusing lens housing simply slips up and down on the gooseneck cylinder because it is slightly bigger. I pointed it straight down to see if it would slip under the weight, but it stays exactly where I left it. As far as the base is concerned, it is quite heavy and sits like a squatting Bhudda statue on our medium pile rug. To kick this thing around you would have to break a toe, and I don't understand folks who said it wasn't heavy enough. Comments on other reviewers' complaints: WEIGHT OF THE BASE: Like I said, the base is quite heavy and gives excellent stability, even on pile carpet SPREAD OF LIGHT FOR READING: ? Three feet isn't enough? It is for me. Even a newspaper gets a good coverage, unless you are within less than two feet of the light itself. POLE SEGMENT THREADING: Mine fit perfectly from top to bottom. I started at the bottom, pulling the wire out as I screwed in each segment. Went together easily and fit perfectly. OVERALL STABILITY: Mine is very stable and the threaded sections appear to stay together just fine. Of course, I don't make a habit of kicking or banging the lamp a lot, any more than I would a table lamp, but my unit is very tight and secure. POWER SWITCHES/CONNECTIONS: There is a metal toggle switch on the back of that lump you see in the photo, where the gooseneck attaches to the pole, and there is an inline power connector about two feet from the base of the lamp. The power connector is fairly solid but you must remember that it can become disconnected if you pull at it. The toggle switch is mounted in metal and is solid. I have no problems with the unit we received. So. I must conclude that the manufacturer listened to his customers and corrected all the problems, or a few folk got units that missed getting a quality control inspection. Either way, by purchasing this via Amazon, it is guaranteed to work properly and be of good quality or Amazon will send you another one or refund your purchase price. That's good enough for me. I love this lamp and intend to buy another one. Thumbs up!

Assembly problem - but great lamp
This is a very nicely designed special use product. The item I received was flawed in manufacture and if I were not a fairly good "do it yourself person" I would have shipped it back. The stem (the pole portion) of the fixture is made up of a series of short length steel tubing sections that must be screwed together. The low wattage power cord is already strung through all the pipe sections so putting this together is like those walking canes that are collapsable and have an elastic cord through the core. I mention this because there is no way to change where each section must fit; it is already determined for you with the cord being pre-strung. I screwed the bottom and top lengths into their respective locations and actually worked toward the middle. When I got to the last point of connection, there was an extreme difference in the diameter of the female end and the corresponding male threaded end hardly made contact when inserted. I could actually slide the male section all the way in with no hope of the threads ever engaging. Immediately I thought about the reviewer who could not get the stem to screw onto the base and felt similar 'pain'. I also said a few words not fit for publication. I was able to eventually correct the problem by extreme crimping of the receiving piece until it was out of round and by adding some tape to the threaded stem piece before inserting. I was able to get enough 'grab' to complete the assembly. The out of round exterior is not highly noticeable and fortunately is behind the couch, so it isn't seen. Now that I've given you the down side, I do want to say that this lamp does a superb job of lighting my reading zone without distracting my partner when the TV is on and when we prefer a darkened room. That was the whole idea when selecting this product and it does exactly what we wanted. This is a low voltage LED product and uses a DC power plug converter, so you'll never burn much energy, even if you use it as a night light or a light source when you ware away from home. I am stuck on three (3) stars due to the manufacturing flaw. If it were not for that, I'd go for 5 stars. It is not terribly expensive but at the price, it should be flawless.

Nice light, does a nice job. Durability remains to be seen.
When I screwed together the pole sections tightly, but by hand, to avoid loosening in service as we move it around, the bottom joint at the base stripped the threads. Quick and easy return, though I had to drop it off in a UPS dropbox nearby. Reordered one and put a few drops of thread locking liquid on each joint and didn’t twist so hard. We like it so far.

Then but functional
This light was more flimsy than expected. Assembly was also a bit cumbersome. However, the light is very bright and I like that you can adjust the width of the light. Compared to other similar lights that I have seen in stores, this was still a good purchase for me.

Great light for reading. Bought for a senior who likes it. The negative is the light bulb CANNOT be changed. Once it burns out THATS IT. Otherwise, its nice looking and very easy to assemble.
