winning 75-square-inch viewable area

Given the 10x6" plastic-framed alternatives (that I also tried), I'm pleased. The LEDs seem to be maybe double the brightness of the $16 12-LED 10x6" plastic-framed 3x Fresnel magnifiers offered AND there's 20% more viewable area here. The built-in LEDs are okay in a pinch, but I prefer an articulated-arm desk lamp instead of, or augmenting the built-in LEDs. Additionally, given the three-sided rimless design, more desk lamp illumination hits the page 'cause there's no black frame blocking that part of the light cone. This one is about 4x the money of the $16 framed alternatives, but it feels like a solution, where the cheaper ones feel sort of claustrophobic, hampered by the thick tunnel sides. If you can afford it, buy this one over the framed ones.

Almost Like A Glass Quality PVC Magnifier

This magnifier is not the cheapest but has the best visibility among many magnifiers I bought from amazon.com with superb clearity. This is almost like a glass quality PVC magnifier. Good dimensions to read a book or view your mobile phone. Your can rotate the magnifier plate easily which is great. Has a LED light, not very practical with the devices as it reflects and makes reading difficult. Very strong and solid body easy to move it with one hand and adjust. You might need to adjust it more then its position and with a box or a book underneath to set the focus right according to your own reading comfort. Overall it is a great magnifier and is a part of my daily life. I am planning to buy aonther for my other room as well.

On the fence

To be fair, I'm not using it for its intended purpose as a way to magnify a book. Instead, I'm using this for crafts specifically for diamond painting. While it's actually better than my current magnifying lamp, there are still a few things that prevent this from working for me. Specifically, and most importantly, there's no even magnification from end to end. The image distorts towards the edges of the magnifying plastic. The warped view gives me a headache if I'm not looking in a specific spot of the magnifier. So, it feels a big deceiving because you still have to move the lamp around in order to see clearly without distortion. It's not completely useless but I probably won't keep it.

Wouldn’t probably recommend this item.

I have to hold the magnifier in place to use it. The swivel mechanism can’t be tightened so it moves unless I hold it—defeats the purpose of a free standing magnifier ????

Exceptional Quality

I have failing eyesight so I need magnification to read books. There was a problem in that the post did not elevate enough for me to get a bookstand plus a book under the lens. Fortunately, my son is a machinist so he made a 3 inch extension to the post, and now it works beautifuuly. The construction and the lens are all of the highest quality. The magnification is as advertised--2.5-3X. Not a jeweler's loupe, certainly but clearly adequate for reading books as the design and book-size lens suggest. To get a lens of that size distortion-free from edge to edge is quite an accomplishment, I should think.

Good but not great, no charger

The sturdy heavy base that is situated to the side of screen is huge improvement over cheap folding plastic legs, but screen is still lenticular plastic (the stuff with circular grooves on one side), which is impossible to clean, and which causes a highly distorted image if you aren’t looking at it from directly above. Biggest problem though is batteries instead of charger...light not very bright even with brand new batteries (which didn’t even last a weekend), I think for the price it should definitely have USB charging cord.

Inexpensive Solution to a need for Whole-page Magnification

I had surgery on my face and was unable t wear glasses for a month. This lamp allowed me to read with a fair degree of comfort and to keep up on home business needs. I like the fact that it is battery-powered. That Allowed me to use it anywhere without being dependent on a nearby outlet. Being able to view an entire page was a real benefit too.
