The bit sheds large metal shavings in hardwood
I've used several different brands of forstner bits of the 2+ inch size. All of them, including the cheap ones are perfectly fine is softwoods like pine. Hardwoods are a completely different story. I make beer and wine flight boards as part of my woodworking buisness. I commonly like to use such species as Walnut, Maple, Oak, Cherry, Hickory etc.. For more moderate density hardwood like cherry, red and white oak, these Freud bits will cut slowly but do so with minimal buring. But for hard maple, walnut, hickory.. forget about it unless you have a VERY high amperage/HP drill press. This bit overheats quickly, throw off metal shavings and burn your project within the first 1/4 inch. The sidewalls are clean but the bottom blades are already dulling after only about 20 holes. And yes, I have my drill press setup to properly speed. Freud is usually my go to brand but I have been seriously disappointed in this particular bit. Here is a pic of the metal that this bit is shedding.

Very nice and high quality
Only problem is that I want to find more holes to create. This was very sharp and cut beatifully. Perfectly formed thin shavings of wood covered the floor when I was done.....but I only had one door to do and so it now sits waiting for its next moment in the sun.

These ARE the forstner bits you're looking for
There are lots of forstner bits out there with prices all over the map. I can imagine that for many purposes, a more inexpensive set will do the trick, particularly when narrower holes are needed. But my project in this case was to make a crayon/pencil caddy for my daughter. I needed to drill smooth and wide holes into a block of wood that I would ultimately be painting and clear-coating. Oh, and, I needed to drill them at a slight angle to the wood surface. The wider the bit, the more challenging the drilling is, so I did some research to find the ideal tool for the job. The wavy serrated outer edge of this bit is an advantage that cannot be overstated. Most forstner bits have teeth around their outer edge, much like a hole saw. While the inner cutter action is the same, the razor sharp serrated outer edge is a huge advantage when it comes to creating a smooth hole, and also when aligning and starting the hole since the outer perimeter of the hole can be projected better than with jagged teeth. On top of all that, the quality materials and build process from Freud make this a top notch bit that I'll be excited to use again. For a single bit it may be a bit pricey, but it was well worth it based on the results.

Burns - Does Not Cut
This was a bad purchase. Freud blades are great, however, this tool skips, churns, clogs, .... basically it was a huge mistake. Put my slightly worn Porter Cable bit in after 2 inches of drilling in 15 minutes. The Porter Cable bit cut the next 1 inch cleanly with no burning or other problems in 1 1/2 minutes.

It's a good
I have several Freud serrated edge Forstner bits (and some non-serrated ones as well) and have used them for years. They're good bits (sharp out of the box, make clean holes, decent cutting speed, and hold their edge for a while), and are not overpriced. The serrated edge (like this one) cuts faster and runs cooler than the straight edge, but is slightly more difficult to sharpen by hand. I would recommend the serrated one over the traditional straight. That being said, these are not as good as Fisch bits (which are substantially more expensive). The Fisch bits make cleaner holes faster and last longer. So generally I get Fisch if I think that I'll use a bit often, and Freud if it's an odd size.

Another Great Freud Product
I continue to be happy with the quality of Freud products. This 2 1/8 Forstner bit was better than anything I could find in my local hardware store and for less money.
