Splitting less than a year out
Immediately when it arrived there were significant knots on parts of the wood which made me nervous but I heard Boos is high quality and I assumed this was natural. I've used Boos's own brand of mineral oil to reseal about once a month. Never used anything too harsh to clean in the sink. And always let it completely air dry before storing. Yes less than a year later I'm seeing the start of a major split forming, not even on the side with the knot. I'd say a $100 cutting board, especially one that requires so much care, should really be a long-term, maybe once in a life purchase. The thought of replacing this in the next few months is completely unacceptable. Would love to get a replacement but the warranty on the Boos website seems very limiting and requires shipping to their store at my own expense, which these days will cost 1/4 the price of the block. Would not recommend!

Dip that steak in the blood groove juices baby!
Dude, this board is awesome. We use it daily and it's held up acceptably. Glad we did not pay more than this, but glad we paid enough to get this thick board with blood grooves. Has handle grooves both sides. Would have been a much better design to run blood grooves on both sides, because over time and with daily washing and olive oil treatments, we've got a little warping because it's so thick and we don't necessarily treat the board per manufacturer guidelines. But if you're like me and just want a great real wood durable board you can wash and oil down with regular olive oil, this one is a winner. I've got something off the bbq on this board, at least several nights a week. Use it for prep work, serving, all of that. Really a great board and if I recall correctly, made in the USA. Just nearly perfect, suggest to Boos to please bevel a blood groove on the opposite side so lazy improper users like myself can flip it over now and then to avoid possible warp effects. We've never had a problem with contamination and olive oiling (organic of course), works just fine for this with paper towel dry then olive oil wipe down after each and every hand wash. Never had bacterial concerns or mold or mildew. Board continues to stay and smell fresh, and knives have been staying sharp. I'll have to buy another one eventually since my usage is causing mild splits. But for a lazy user like myself, I'm more than satisfied with the apparent 2-3 years durability with daily use, even using totally incorrect care methods. This is our first thick high quality board and it's a great change of pace from the thin ones. We also keep a thin bamboo in use along side this. Me and the wife cut, salt, lime squeeze, and eat our steaks right off of this board. Awesome.

First Block Split
I wanted a decent butcher block. Saw Gordon Ramsey uses this brand. So it must be good, right?! The first block we ordered, split! Used it only once. I just made the return policy! I was sent a new one with no problem. Took only a few days. My husband is happy with the butcher block, even though I think putting on the oil’s would be a pain. My new block has a dark spot, so not pleasing to my eye. The original one looked better. I’m hoping this one won’t split. It’s costly.

Highly recommended. I've owned this board since 2013 and expect to be using it for years to come.
I've owned and used this board almost every day since 2013. It was a great purchase as it's still looking great and is easy to maintain. One of the most important things to remember is that you need to recondition it periodically to protect it and keep it as sanitary as possible. This board is designed with a trench all the way around which makes it ideal for cutting meat. I've used it for big beef roasts as well as hams and it has always performed exactly as needed. It's fairly large but not too heavy to move around. I often have a lot of inflammation in my hands and I can use it and move it around pretty easily. Do yourself a favor and go ahead and buy the cream and oil you need to maintain the board. You'll be glad you have them on hand as you can use them on other wood items in your home. I have had great results with the following: John Boos Butcher Block Board Cream, 5 ounce Tube John Boos MYS32-6 Mystery Butcher Block Oil, 32 ounces Be sure to follow the directions for the best results. Highly recommended.

Beautiful Large Maple Cutting Board
As soon as you get this, get the mineral oil or the John Boos board dressing prodcut and keep this board buttered-up real good. If you don't own commercial board butter and you are a DIY person .. go buy beeswax and mineral oil and melt the wax into the mineral oil; that is all you will ever need. Put mineral oil on first ... let it soak a bit; wipe it down and then apply your own homemade board butter (beeswax and mineral oil) and rub it in ... buff off the excess. Please don't buy this if you want to put it in the dishwasher; just buy a good plastic cutting board; this board is a work of art and it deserves the care regimen detailed above. When my family visits, they all notice how thick and beautiful this board is; John Boos sells many sizes and prices; so, take a measuring tape out and envision the size and area that you want to protect on your kitchen counter; the sizes are all listed on this item(s), so be sure to buy one that suites your needs; We went with a slightly larger board and we really like the trough around the perimeter of the cutting board too. And it is thick and heavy and it does not rock. There is not any kind of warp or anything; it does not need rubber feet or anything like that; it does not slide on the counter either. Do not ever let it soak in water .. just don't do it ... wash it quickly ... wipe it down and let it air dry.

Great board, complicated care
This is a fantastic cutting board. But going in, I didn’t know that the oil and cream were required to make it last long. It’s very expensive and people saying it could crack or warp if not done properly makes me think: why didn’t I just get one for $10 then throw it out in a few years? If it lasted super long and wasn’t as complicated I’d be thrilled by my purchase. But the whole process of using it makes me want to use a cheaper board when I cook.

Great Quality
The brand is renowned for their wood products, this is not a surprise when you see the product itself. Pros: - Smooth, well finished work surface. - washes well once oiled using their branded products. - Tight joints between the wood - Solid product - Perfect thickness - Convenient juice groove for cutting meats or other food items that are juicy Cons: - Elders might find it a touch on the heavy side Tip: Explore where you'll store the product before purchasing it.

Love this but oil it regularly!
This is my second Boos cutting board. Love the weight, thickness and the fact it doesn't slip around on a counter. Have bought cheaper, thin wood cutting boards in the past and regretted it. Don't be shy about oiling the board regularly!! We use it often, hand wash & dry it immediately and the wood drys out. That's what wood does. Oiling it regularly helps keep the surface softer and it looking great.

Beautiful and functional
Beautiful quality substantial cutting board. Heavy enough to stay put on the counter with very convenient slot handle to move it with ease

What a waste of money
What a piece of crap. I can make a rocking chair out of this board. I’ve never had this submerged under water and it is totally buckled and crack. What a waste of money. Off to Costco today for a new board

Like that I can use both sides.
I'm really happy with this cutting board. Really like how both sides are different.
