A genius device, possibly the best carabiner for keys.

This is possibly the most perfect carabiner I have found. So far after getting into the habit of automatically locking it when putting it on my belt loop my only fear is that somehow my belt loop will break and I will lose my keys. Just the right size that it doesn't get in the way by being too large. I have the black one and the silver one, the black one gets scratched and looses it's color very quickly after use and doesn't look so great so I'll stick to the silver one.

I got this to use as a keyholder, because ...

I got this to use as a keyholder, because other carabiners have a tendency to unclip from my belt. However, I thought the locking portion would be on a retention spring and slide back automatically (like the clip,) and it is not. That makes it unwieldy for my intended purpose, and thus I've reverted to a standard clip.

Function: Five Stars . . . Durability: One Star On the first two of these I have owned the spring broke where it bends and pins into the body. I wrote Nite-Ize customer service. They were curt and reluctant, but I eventually got a free replacement. Both my original and that replacement broke in the same spot, about a year into ownership. Why did I order a third? Because this clip is absolutely perfect for clipping my car key and a very small multi-tool to my belt loop. It is trim and subtle, unlike bigger carabiners. I'm always on the scout for something better, but until then I guess I'll get these and think of it more as renting.

Locking mechanism opens by itself too easily

I've been using this for about 5 months now, and I am going to replace it soon. I originally purchased this because I wanted to be able to quickly remove a flash drive or my apartment keys when I went for a run. While you are able to quickly to do that, I find that the black piece of plastic doesn't stay put well enough, so the carabiner will open up, resulting in me dropping some keys on the ground when I pull the carabiner out of my pocket. The locking mechanism simply doesn't work, so I will get one that screws shut and hope that it won't undo itself like this locking mechanism does.
