Very good product, but warning
This is the 6th winter I've used this humidifier, and overall I'm please. It does a good job of raising the humidity in a very large room. HOWEVER, a warning: If the tanks are not installed perfectly, which takes a little doing, it can overflow onto the floor. This happened to me and seriously damaged a small portion of a wooden floor. After 5 seasons of use, I had to replace the tanks because the washers surrounding the valve that releases water from the tank to the base had disintegrated. That ran about $35, but was cheaper than buying a whole new humidifier. Also, I've found that I don't need to use Honeywell filters. What's important is to clean them frequently, which I do weekly, by soaking them in a solution of about 50/50 vinegar/water for about a half hour. This dissolves the mineral crust that accumulates in the filter. I also add a small amount of vinegar to each tank whenever I refill them, which retards the growth of mold.

Does what it's supposed to do
Only complaint is that one of the tank valves occasionally sticks and the unit will stop running even though there is a full tank on one side.

Great Humidifier. Be careful with the tanks (See review).
UPDATE: According to Honeywell this product has been discontinued, I'd keep this in mind if you're buying this... Great humidifier. Machine is pretty quiet for the most part and humidifies a large quantity of air without all the white dust from the ultrasonics. The one issue I have with this humidifer is the tanks have no good places to grab. I'd recommend always using TWO HANDS and making sure you have a good hold of it before removing or installing in the machine. I dropped a tank and it shattered part of it (Its made out of strong but somewhat brittle plastic) which burnt out the humidifier and left me with a broken tank... Be careful. Edit: Humidifier is fine and I used some sheets of PET plastic and JB Plastic weld to fix the second tank. It lives again.

The second water tank does not always switch over. Leaked once.
The humidifier works well. A few of times it ran out of water with the right tank full. Once the right tank valve stuck open slightly and caused an overflow. Recommend a tray under unit just in case and check it after filling. The fan is fairly quite even on high. The tanks are a little difficult to get to fit back in place when full. It is easier to fill them in place using the large door on top of the tanks.

Definite upgrade from 6009 but could be better
We upgrade from the very poorly designed HCM-6009 which we had for years. That unit's design was horrible and it is nice to see that this HEV685W fixes some of those issue. That said there are some flaws. Pros: -This unit has top fill capability (which we recommend over removing the tanks). While the tanks have the pleasant surprise of being able to be rested in a sink base to fill, thanks to the new support structures at the bottom, they simply don't feel very durable and I am afraid if they fall over during filling or you set them down hard, they will crack. The top fill capability is really helpful and a huge upgrade from the 6009 model. We have refilled a few times now using a pitcher (unit is close to the bath tub) and this route works well with lesser risk of having an accident to the tanks. Quiet. Wow, this unit is so much quieter than what it replaced. While we personally like the white noise, this unit is super quiet and I would recommend on that aspect if that's your thing. Humidity and controls. I will update the post after a full month of usage but so far this is putting out a ton of humidity and I estimate a full 3 gallons in under 24 hours which is great for our home's needs. I love the easy controls and hate buying things that are more expensive just for digital controls which break and aren't accurate. This unit has simple controls and easy to use for anyone. -Pretty ease to assemble and use (even if putting your own wheels on as we did). Cons: -Tanks are not durable and like the 6009 which easily broke, I am fearful of them, therefore only will top fill to minimize accidents. -Cheap- it is hilarious that the unit has the holes for wheels built in. The company simply doesn't give you the wheels! We took the wheels off our 6009 unit before throwing it out and guess what, they fit perfectly in the wheel holes for this unit. Absolutely funny and an interesting way for the company to save money. But hey, it is great that the wheel wells are there as you can buy such wheels at homedepot or the like. -Grabbing the tanks- the design is a bit poor as you have to flip open the top fill flaps to get to the handle on the tanks. This is going to cause issues and when I tried removing a half full tank to top it off under the facet, it was slippery. Also, when doing so, the top flap comes off so easy... -The water tank security feature mentioned in another review is questionable and I will update when I have a full month of usage. -Noticed that putting the top (main middle compartment with the motor) back on the unit with a in-use filter, you need to press it down a bit. Once the filter is in use and wet, the top needs to be pressed down to close. when dry and new, it is fine. I am not sure if this is really a con, just FYI. Summary, I highly recommend this over the unit it replaced, just wish it had a couple of further upgrades and that the tanks were a bit more durable. I think for our needs it will be fine, that is lots of humidity, top fill ease where you don't have to remove the tanks, relatively expected size, holds a lot to easily last through the night on the highest settings,.

Easy to fill
So far I really like this humidifier. It’s easy to fill and clean. It’s also very quiet. I bought an Aircare humidifier last year and finally got rid of it. This Honeywell is so much better and I would buy it again.

Great humidifier!
It took me a while to get this thing going well; I nearly returned it, and I'm glad now that I didn't. The problem was with the filter going moldy in the first couple of weeks, and by the 3rd week it rotted and literally fell apart in my hands. I bought a pair of ProTec Antibacterial balls, one for each water holder, and it's been fine ever since. The noise is fine -- just a pleasant sort of white noise that lets you know it's still alive and on the job. Best of all it maintains a good humidity level (44% or so) constantly. Cleaning it is a bit of a bug, but it's worth it for the good job it does. I'm glad I didn't send it back.

Efficient
Works well. We found it a bit noisy at first but quickly got used to it. Needs frequent filling.

Reliable no-dust and easy-fill humidifier
Humidifies well, taking our internal humidity from 20% to over 50% and then maintaining that level. Three fan speeds so it can be set to quiet for overnight or company. And ability to open the lid on the tanks and fill with a pitcher has been an unexpected and valuable benefit.

Works best with clean filters. Not so easy to find. Stock up.
Product works as described. We’ve been using it now for most of the winter in an 1800 sq ft home. Well built and easy to maintain. Pay attention to the hardness of the water being evaporated and keep it clean. We’re very satisfied.

Doesn't work well
I loved this unit at first because the sheer amount of water this unit pumps out is astounding. You pay for it in real estate and large filters though. The unit is much bigger than anticipated, but I was fine with that. The problem with my unit is that I woke up a few mornings to a tank that was completely full but the machine turned off with the indication that it needed to be refilled. This is a constant problem. The machine does NOT use both tanks, only one. There is clearly a problem with my unit, but this is a common problem I read about on the internet. Do your research first. I have to return mine now.
