Not the shape shown

Definitely not the shape shown in the picture. It does not flare out to accommodate shoulders and sit properly. Not super comfortable but it will work to cover the area.

Grandson won't go on the ice without it.

I have two grandsons that play ice hockey, 6 and 8 years old. The 8 year old loves the neck protector, the 6 year old finds it uncomfortable. I think it is still a little big for him. Hoping he will grow into it.

Not what is pictured

The item we received looks nothing like the one that is pictured. Doesn't lay down flat in the front. Thin, not sure this would offer much protection.

Much improved from what we wore

I'm writing this review as both a parent, former player and youth ice hockey coach of five years. The neck guards young players have today are leaps and bounds beyond what I wore as a player in the '90's. This is much thinner, more comfortable and lighter, yet provides stronger protection against cuts and realistically that is the true purpose of a a neck guard. While they are not required in most leagues I recommend them for all players.

Smallest width for a mini mite by an inch

This one covers the neck properly and has a very flexible, soft part for under the chin. The rest I tried were just way too wide, over an inch wider and there was absolutely no way my mini might was going to wear them. This is really the best fit from IP to bantams.

Well made, form fitting, lacks any plastic but ample velcro for growing and worth the money.

Well made, although I was shocked there was ZERO plastic at all. Basically this is a very soft neck guard. If you want something more solid rather than a soft exterior, this is probably not the one. I was expecting at least a thin piece of plastic to stop the skate if it came to that but there is only this pad made of fabric. Fits my 8 year old daughter who is 52" tall perfectly with room to grow. In fact it fits a 17" man's neck very tightly of course. This will last you many years of hockey playing, even until they are in their mid teens.

Comfortable to wear

My son did not like the smaller neck guards, he says this one is much more comfortable to wear.

Works great.

Had bought other styles from the store that were much thicker and too stiff and the kids found them very uncomfortable because of how thick they were. Obviously thick is important for the extra protection, but they just didn't not work. So I grabbed this one as it's a little thinner and more malleable, making them more comfortable around the neck. Price is high though, more expensive than other styles. So value for money is OK. Not great. But if I'm not hearing the kids comain, that's worth the extra $10 or so.

We have purchased other Shock Doctor products before but I would not recommend this at all - waste of money

I give this 1 star because it is very disappointing. I want a neck guard for my teenage son who plays outdoor hockey as goalkeeper and thought this would be suitable. Sadly it is very lightweight/flimsy with no padded areas offering any reasonable level of protection. We have purchased other Shock Doctor products before but I would not recommend this at all - waste of money.

My son had a smaller size, outgrew it. Bought the bigger size. The best neckguard that I’ve ever purchased.

Priceless Safety at an Excellent Price!

This is a super product and every player of every age group should be using one. Recreation league, competitive leagues or just shooting pucks on the back rink ... so easy to put on, not expensive and yet priceless for the safety these bring. Buy it!
