Fits in small spaces
I was looking for a smaller knife holder that would fit next to another one. This works well

Quality knife block
If you only have a few knives and need a block, this Shun knife block is a solid choice. I like the fact the knives are stored horizontally and that the block itself isn’t huge and bulky. Great at $30

looks great, holds the knives well and doesn’t take up much space on the counter top

Not that smooth
There’s wood dusts in the knife slots (that i can’t clean), and glue on the outsides. But it still looks nice, medium weighted (might won’t heavy enough for some people) . The biggest problem, which is my mistake was.. there is no room for utility knife. I’ve tried to put my 5 inch utility knife in the small top slot, but my knife was too thin and small so it got little bit lifted up, might cause damage on my blade. Conclusions. it’s cheap but fair for price it doesn’t have patty knife slot so mind that.

My knives fit perfectly and it takes little space
It's as advertised. My 9" Shun chef knife fits well, as well as the sharpening tool and some other knives. It's very slim so doesn't take much space on my limited countertop space.

An ok product that i recommend
Comments about a loose fitment to shun knives are true. It works. 3/5 stars because of the really, really wide slots for shun premiers. Sturdily build and i have no doubts it will last a lifetime. It was cheap and holds our knives. I have yet to find a knife across the kitchen, trying the ol’ looney toons sneak away trick. Depth is not ideal for my expectations, chefs knife is in slot 2 from bottom while nakiri is in bottom slot. I’d like it the other way around, but no biggie. Your fitment may be better if you have western style knives, as they tend to be thicker and heavier. -price 5/5 -aesthetics 5/5 -fitment (slot width) 2/5 -fitment (depth) 3/5 Hey it’s cheap and it holds your $700-900 or whatever you spent-knives just fine! I do recommend if it’s the right product for you.

It has holes for knives
I wanted to place to put my knives, and my knives do fit in it, so… I’m not sure what else you want in a knife block? The packaging was very minimal, and it arrived slightly dinged on one corner, but it didn’t affect functionality.

Looks great, holds kinives. Price a tad high but good quality.
I had a set of decent knives that came with a pale wood block and after years of use, I was annoyed by two things--how big it was and how the scissors slot was at the right edge, blocked by knives and it was annoying to grab it. This one solves both of those problems! My old set had 4 cooking knives (8" chef knife, 6" santoku, 5" utility knife, 4" paring knife) and all of those fit beautifully in this one. My scissors are now easy to grab and a lot less space is taken up by this one. The base of this is 2.5" x 8.5", but in practice it takes up a lot more room length-wise since it's slanted and your knife handles will stick out. With the 8" chef knife at the bottom, the footprint of this on my counters is about 3.5" x 14" (some room also taken up width wise by the handle of my scissors, which I'd say is the normal size? It's not one of the smaller metal ones). My block came wrapped in shrink wrap, bubble wrap, a bunch of plastic air pockets, then a sturdy box with the Shun logo so I assume it's the original packaging. Very well protected, no dings or anything. I'm a little worried that the dark finish will get damaged over time since my old block had that issue (the finish rubbed off around the knife slots and the scissors slot had been eroded), but time will tell. Some reviews mentioned that the slots are too loose, but they're the same size as my old knife block. Don't expect your knives to be very snug with absolutely no movement, just like any other wooden knife block. Overall, a tad expensive ($55 when I bought it), but worth it for me due to the great size, colouring, and quality.

Yes, You Actually Only Need Four Kitchen Knives
This is a great knife block, and probably the most affordable Shun product you can buy haha. Shun makes high quality knives and if you're willing to splurge on them, they are worth it. They'll last a lifetime and have excellent customer service (free sharpening). You really don't need a lot of knives to get everything done in the kitchen. Chef or Santoku depending on your chopping style, serrated utility, and a paring knife should be able to handle most of the work.
