Skil should come up with more such awesome woodworking tools like this one!

I recently purchased the Skil 12V Orbital Detail Sander and I have to say, I'm extremely impressed with its performance. This orbital detail sander is a step above the standard vibrating or oscillating tools on the market, as it utilizes tiny circles to create superior finishing quality. Despite being a 12V tool, this sander packs a punch with a great amount of power. It's impressive how much power it has for its size, and it certainly gets the job done. I was particularly impressed with how well it handled sanding down stubborn spots on wood and metal surfaces. One of the best things about this detail sander is its comfortable grip. The machine is well-balanced and ergonomic, so it's easy to use for extended periods of time without experiencing hand fatigue. I also appreciate the thoughtful design of the dust collection system, which keeps the work area clean and free of debris. One thing that really stood out to me is that the Skil 12V Orbital Detail Sander is a great value for the price. It's comparable in quality to the Milwaukee Detail Sander, which is currently very popular, but at a significantly lower cost. This makes it an excellent choice for both DIY enthusiasts and professional contractors on a budget. In general, I'm impressed with the Skil 12V platform. There are a lot of decent brushless tools in this line, and they're all affordably priced. If you're looking for a detail sander that's powerful, comfortable to use, and a great value, I highly recommend giving the Skil 12V Orbital Detail Sander a try.

Great cordless detail sander

This is the only cordless detail sander I've used before, but I've used an older corded black and decker that would shake your hand to death. This one fits nicely in your hand and can use for extended periods of time without having to take a break due to vibration. I found that the dust collector was kind of useless. The included sanding pads will get you started pretty good. Battery life seems good as I haven't ran it long enough to kill the battery. Looking forward to more projects with this!

I have my concerns

The media could not be loaded. If you read the label on the rechargeable battery, it specifically says “Do Not Recharge”. Fairly sure that was an oversight in production, but I cannot help but be concerned about this. Afterall, if you can overlook what the customer will see you can overlook what they cannot see. Or they could be totally serious about not recharging the battery, in which case, I am concerned about why they would include a charge with a device that is not meant to be charged. I picked up this sander because I was curious how well the integrated dust collector would work compared to the traditional bag that rides behind most palm sanders. If it were not for that detail, I probably would have skipped over this product and that would be a shame since I would have really missed out. I have never personally used Skil before, but I know they have been around for a while and are known for making quality products. Have you ever wondered why circular saws are often called skill saws… Remove one “l” and you get Skil Saw. So, what’s so great about this tool? Its compact, lightweight, brushless, charges quickly, and the batteries have integrated USB ports allowing them to function as power supplies / chargers for your phone or other 5v electronics. I have seen aftermarket accessories that allow power tool batteries to function as chargers but have never seen it integrated into the battery itself before. This is something I would call a big brain move and I hope other tool brands adopt this detail soon. Now I haven’t used this tool for a dozen hours yet but I feel like I have a good feel for its performance as compared to other sanders I have used. First of all, I hope you know that this is a detail sander and not a regular orbital sander. While this sander can be used for larger areas you will likely appreciate and orbital sander more for that type of work. This detail sander on the other hand, it excels at the details and getting into tight corners. I want to make many comparisons against other palms sander I have used and since I don’t want this review to turn into a book, I am going to make them short and to the point. Material removal is roughly equal. Dust collection is slightly better. Vibration is less than other sanders. Ergonomics are far less. Weight is less than any cordless I have used as well as some corded ones. Five year warranty is exceptional. Variety of other tools compatible with battery is above average for 12v. Charging speed is far above average. Size is slightly less than other cordless. Noise is equal to or less than the average sander. I have a short video where I pan over two pieces of wood. The one in the front has been briefly sanded and the one in the back has not been sanded at all. Overall, this seems to be an excellent tool with a good brand backing it up. If it were not for how badly it felt in my hand I would give it 5 stars.
