Perfect electricians hammer

The stapler puller kind of stupid. But the long neck is great I really like this hammer.

Great hammer, takes some getting used to.

It’s a great hammer overall. The claw is amazing for getting at staples over romex. The only thing that prevented it getting a 5 star was that it is awkward to use at first if you are used to regular shorter faced hammers. I understand the purpose of the elongated striking face, but it was very different from what I was used to so it really isn’t a fault of the hammer. It really allows you to strike staples over studs without smashing your fingers and getting to those over-hammered staples from your coworkers/fellow electricians. Like I said though, great hammer overall.

Hammer does not perform well for roughing in homes and stapling romex.

Have used this hammer to rough-in two houses in the past month. This should be where an "electrician's hammer" shines. However, I have already abandoned it for a simpler 16oz framing hammer and am much happier. The most important feature of the hammer is arguably the staple remover. It works "ok" at best. It will not remove staples that are driven snugly to the romex. It can be difficult to slide it under the staple without damaging the outer jacket of the wire. It is nice when it works, but considering that it does not always get the job done, you are better off keeping a pair of diagonals in your back pocket to complete this task. The most annoying drawback of this claw design is that it makes it incredibly difficult to remove nails, which is a necessary function on occasion. I'm not sure what exactly the extended head is for, but it serves no purpose that I am aware of when roughing-in a residential house. It actually makes the hammer awkward to use when hammering staples because the head is so far extended from the handle. Also the hammer weighs 18oz. This makes it heavier and unbalanced compared to a 16oz hammer, which has more than enough force to drive staples without the need for added weight. The construction of the hammer is not great. There is a visible line of glue where the head of the hammer meets the shaft, and the soft rubber handle damages easily. I would not prefer this hammer in any way over any of the tried and true performing framing hammers. It performs its intended task, but it does not excel at it. I would not purchase this hammer again. Let Southwire stick to manufacturing wire.

Good hammer, just remember to wear gloves if using it for long periods

I like the balance of this 18oz hammer. It's a handsome looking hammer too. Handle is fibreglass + rubber. It offers a good grip. Doesn't transmit too much shock during use, but my index finger did get a friction blister after about 50 swings. So do wear gloves if using the hammer for prolonged periods.
