Great Plug Cutter

This plug cutter cuts a 5/8 inch plug to a perfect 5/8 inch OD. The plug is approximately 1 1/4 inch long.I purchased this at Amazon. Irwin 43910 5/8" Plug Cutter

HORRIBLE --- burns through wood as much as it cuts

I cut two buttons out of 1/8" plywood and this "cutter" pretty much just BURNED its way through and the bit got too hot to handle. Disgusting. I'm returning it. I have a 3-cutter set from Harbor Freight that cost $4 and cuts perfect buttons in plywood. LATER: I though maybe I was running the drill press to fast even though the Harbor Freight bits worked OK so I slowed it down to about 1000 RPM and still had the same problem, it just too slightly longer for the bit to get through but with the same burning.

It was not sharp enough to cut cleanly through white ...

It was not sharp enough to cut cleanly through white oak, and it caused burning around the edges. This showed in a dark circles in the finished filled hole. I should have gone for a four pronged tapered cutter, but I was being cheap.
