It gets hot

Even on the lowest setting it gets pretty hot so be careful you don't burn whatever you're working on.

The calefaction gun works well. I used it to remove decal-lettering for a truck's van box. I have no complaints as it presented no problems! It was facil (faCIL) to use!

Good Balance and Great Value

So, it doesn't have any fancy features, but it's light, it feels good in the hand, and it's also balanced well. It lays flat on the table without tipping and without the hot tip getting too close to the table. It also stands on end fairly well, but it is a light tool, so the stiffness of the cord can make it fall over. It's not the most flexible cord in the world, but also not particularly bad. It's just a lightweight tool, with all that implies, both good and bad. There is enough heat on low for most purposes, and there isn't much noise at that setting. The high setting increases both heat and blower speed, which makes it a bit louder and more frantic-sounding on high. Some vibration is transmitted to the hand on both settings. It's not terrible, but I'm just saying that it vibrates more than my more expensive professional heat gun. The only general use negatives that I can think of is that there was a clear rubber cover on the switch that was making it hard to operate the switch, but fortunately(?) it fell off almost right away. Perhaps it was not installed correctly. And personally, I found the little wire stand thing on the handle to be uncomfortable in my hand, but fortunately, I have no need in standing it up on end, so I can do without the wire thing. In case anyone happens to have a similar application, I bought this with the idea that it would be easier to run with my portable generator than my more powerful professional gun, which like most (all?) variable-temp guns, cycles the heating element off and on at about one-second intervals in order to maintain the selected heat output. It works fine on a stout grid-supplied circuit, but on a lesser circuit, lights on the same circuit dim in time to the heating element cycles, and this is even more of a problem with a small generator. So in that regard, having just two always-on settings is a lot more practical. The only down side is that with this heat gun, the low setting has a poor power factor. For example, on high, both watts and Volt-Amps are around 1400, but on low while the watts fall to around 550, the V/A remain up around 1000. And V/A is what determines the ultimate capacity of a small generator, so this heat gun is not as easy on a generator as it would be if it had a better power factor on low. The same would be true if running on an inverter. None of this makes much practical difference when running on grid power, so this won't matter to most people, but worth considering for off-grid applications. With that said, a steady 1000 V/A is still a lot easier on a generator than cycling between 1600 and 0 V/A every second. And at the end of the day, it's a pretty nice little heat gun for the money.

Almost set my house ablaze.

The media could not be loaded. The unit caught fire while UNPLUGGED and I had to physically throw it out the window from a high rise in Toronto to save my house from burning down. The video I took was moments before it caught fire, the smoke started to increase near the end of the video as you can see. I plugged it in to use to heat up a label to peel off, it instantly started to smoke, unplugged it and it was still smoking, then it caught fire all while unplugged. I have contacted B&D directly and have not heard back. Their service is not up to par. I ended up throwing away all my Black & Decker products out of fear it might burn down my house. This is the second Black & Decker product that I bought this year for general use around my home that has a major defect. *Just a side note I was a technician at many dealerships, heavy truck shops and a train company and have never had so many issues from any tool company ever in my life, and I buy a wide range of tools from lower end Mastercraft and Craftsman all the way to my new higher end Milwaukee and Snap-on tools.

Has a burning smell and smokes after use

I purchased the BLACK + DECKER HG1300 Dual Temperature Heat Gun for about $20.00 to use on a couple of projects around the house. I highly recommend you test this immediately after purchasing it. When I first used it, it seemed fine. I turned it off after about 30 seconds of use and there was a strong burning smell and white smoke coming from the gun. It was enough to set off my smoke detector. I figured it might be due to initial use, so over the course of a week I tried it 3 times and each time it had the same result. Strong burning smell and a lot of white smoke being created. I've requested a replacement so I will see if the next one is any better.

Lightweight and works well. Built in stand is a bonus!

Great unit at the right price. I do a lot of wiring and purchased this for heat shrink tubing. I’ve also used it for bending plastic tubing into required shapes and stripping paint from an old banister. It feels nice in your hand, not too heavy or bulky. Good constant heat, two settings and it even rests on it's back to avoid burning your work surface when you need to put it down. So far, no issue encountered after many projects. Pros: - Lightweight - Multiple temperature settings - Built in stand to cool down unit or to secure it while working. - Nice solid feeling in your hands. Cons: None so far. Would have liked the attachments in the pictures but that was my fault for not reading the add fully. I would easily recommend this unit. I used it for a couple of small projects, heats up very fast and delivers strong consistent heat. Excellent investment and feels very well made. Just be aware that it doesn't include the tips that are shown in the marketing photos, not sure why they're shown when they aren't included, nor is it mentioned that tips are extra. That's the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, because usually when they show something that isn't included, it says "x not included".
