Works great on weeds. But you will want a full face shield
Work great on weeds. Pro’s: easy to assemble, cuts weeds with 1/2” shaft easily. Cleared 30’ x 30’ area on one charge. Higher speed recommend for thicker weeds. Cons: shield could be bigger on left side to reduce stuff from flying into face (wear full face shield and gloves if taken weeds to dirt level). Battery drain faster on high speed. I have not used on grass area, but I am concerned when I get to chain link fence area

Remarkably powerful string trimmer
This compares favorably to my 25 year old Stihl Combi System trimmer. Quite powerful and ripped through some tall, woody plants. (Wear a face shield and long pants!) Trimmers tend to be difficult to balance and this one is no exception. Oddly enough in response to my question, Greenworks said a shoulder strap must be purchased separately but mine came with one. However, I found that it didn't fit me correctly even after a lot of adjustments. I have another one that I made work. This came with a 5 amp hour and a 2 amp hour battery. Because I have another 5 amp hour battery from my mower purchase the 2 amp hour battery is for emergency back up. Unless you are needing to do several hundred yards of work along a fence line, the 5 amp hour battery should be sufficient. Of course, the usual positives apply to battery powered tools: no gas, oil, tune-ups, filter cleaning or jerking on the starter cord. No fumes, much less noise. Highly recommend it.

Works well; poor battery life (2Ah)
This thing works extremely well. With the included head, it will easily cut down most typical grass and weeds. It also has a normal shaft, just like a gas trimmer, that allows you to swap the head out with bladed heads designed for brush. After attaching one of those I was easily able to take out saplings up to about an inch in diameter. It is very lightweight and easy to use. The only downside is that the battery life when using the 2Ah battery included with the kit I bought is very poor. It would be enough for most typical suburban yards, but if you have a larger one or live in a more rural area then you will want either more batteries or a larger battery.

First Impression
I bought this, because I also purchased the Greenworks 12" chainsaw earlier. I wanted them to share batteries, etc. I replaced my gas string trimmer because the wife and I are older, and not able to sling around heavy gas units as well anymore. 1st impression is pretty good. Feels like a well built unit. As good as any I assume. I sold off my Husq gas trimmer and this is not much lighter than the gas one, but is a little lighter, and seems a littler easier to sling around. What I like most is not having to deal with the gas mixture, wearing myself out starting it before I even get to cutting. It seems to fill that purpose just fine. Powering it up, it feels just as powerful as the gas unit was. Knocked the weeds out just as good. Noise level is much better, and vibration is quite a bit less contributing to being less fatigued using it. Bottom line is, I like it. The string head seems to be better built than the gas unit was also. I put on a blade head that I used with the gas one, and it spun that with commanding power as well. Owning both the chainsaw and the string trimmer, so far I am pleased with Greenworks. I use the 2 ah batteries to save a little more weight, and they last fine. At least as long as I do. I also have two batteries between the two units, so if I need more time, I can always use the battery from the other. I like that idea. I will be adding other Greenworks yard tools to my arsenal.

It's okay.
In writing this I'm comparing it to a Troy-Bilt CORE TB4200 which I owned for 2 years. PRO's: * It's well balanced and doesn't strain my back, and comes with a shoulder strap - which I loved. The TB4200 was horribly balanced and almost every user noted back strain. * The battery design is thoughtful. The charger can accommodate larger batteries so it's a one-size-fits-all charger, it seems. The batteries lock in place but can be removed via a latch. The TB4200 battery was a nightmare to remove and is ultimately what destroyed the tool for me. * It's easy to put together. The 2-piece shaft design is less than desirable, but hasn't caused me any problems. * There's a power button. Seems simple, but on the TB4200, if the battery was in - it was live. With this Greenworks model I can shut it off and not worry about accidentally revving it up with kids around. * It's part of a system. I don't own anything else Greenworks, so this wasn't a big deal for me, but with electric trimmers you typically do 30 minutes of work and wait for a recharge. If you have multiple Greenworks tools and batteries you could just swap batteries and keep at it (though the batteries seem absurdly expensive). CON's: * This is a little light on power. It works great for light work but as soon as you have a thick patch to go through you need to be more methodical, while the TB4200 was a beast that would rip through anything. * The 2.0 battery has miserable life. It works for maybe 20 minutes before puttering out. Although it does charge up quickly, too. * The 2.0 battery has heating issues. I never experienced that with the TB4200 - but, to be fair, it also had a huge heat fans that could get hot enough to cause light burns if you touched it while hot. I appreciate that Greenworks included a safety issue, but it's a bit perplexing to have a small battery have so many heating issues in mild weather. * The grass deflector design leaves something to be desired - it's big and relatively low, and often drags/bumps the ground as you move to the left. It should be shorter and it's a silly oversight. * The handle for turning it on its side is cheap, and prevents it from being used on either side of your body. I'd almost recommend leaving it off.

Very useful trimmer
I wanted a wider cut path, it does it with steady cuts, not too noisy, with the .8 string easily cuts weed, I like it. Complements perfect with my Greenworks 20 inch mower
