No more stopping every 2 - 3 hours hoping the car will start....
Have had this product for a couple of seasons on my motorhome now. I was about to really slam it after the first half of my last trip - since my tow battery was still dying. HOWEVER.... After using a bungee to hold my wire harness in place on the motorhome - I did not have any further problems with my tow vehicle. It started up every time after that with seemingly no loss of power. Went over 4 hours in one segment and still no issue (had been less than two previously). So - I am right now optimistic that I solved my issue with why it was not working consistently (unrelated to the product), and will hopefully have a charged battery at all times going forward. Pros: Seems to be working now (not an issue with the product) Battery stays charged (Yay!!) Relatively easy to install (had to do some wiring - but not too bad if you do your homework and have done some minor wiring previously). Self contained and no additional parts needed Cons: Hmmmm..... I would suggest you use a meter and confirm it is working before relying on it. If not, recheck your wiring. I found that some of the information on the web about the tow wiring harness was not always accurate...and there were variations that were not well/widely known. So do your homework and then check to make sure it is getting and giving the power needed before calling it a day.

I tested it and it works great, as advertised!
I've been using mine for 6 months now and it works great! I read several posts that claim it doesn't work, so they either got a dud, or they aren't following the proper procedure in their car manual and pulling the right fuses. My manual recommended pulling the BCM (body control module) fuse so I decided to run a test. On my first day, I pulled the fuse and towed for 6 hours and when I stopped for the night I checked my battery and it was right at 13 volts and all was fine. On my second day, I put the fuse back in and decided to check it after about 3 hours. My battery was down to 10.6 volts and this little charger was hot so I again pulled the fuse. After about 3 more hours of towing, the battery was back up to 12.6 volts and the maintainer was cool again. I also tested the output of this little charger and it puts out just about 2 amps when the battery is low. I don't know if it trickles down any farther when the battery is fully charged as I didn't bother to test that, but I do know my battery is never over 13 volts at the end of the day so it must? Bottom line, check your manual or go to your local dealership and find out which fuses to pull from your vehicle and this little guy will work great! HAPPY TOWING!

*Beware of inadequate fuse contacts*
Works, but during our most recent trip, the toad battery kept dying. Read below for more information. Reading through the other reviews, it sounds like a few other people may have had similar issues and not tracked down the true problem. I installed this in our toad a year and a half ago and verified that it does work, and it properly maintained the battery on a few trips sense then, as far as I am aware (not constantly checking the voltage, but it was never dead). At least one negative review was that this only provided 2A of current to the battery, but that's by design...this is a current limiter and diode, intended to be a battery maintainer for a light load on the toad's electrical system. It is not intended to charge a battery from dead and is not the same as just connecting a wire from the motorhome to the toad. With no current limiter, if the toad battery was too dead, it would send a lot of current from the motorhome to the toad battery (think jumper cables) over a very thin wire intended to just power lights, etc. This would frequently blow the fuse in the motorhome for the trailer wiring or, even worse, start a fire if there is no fuse (there is). After our toad battery died the first time on our latest trip, I looked into what was wrong. Using a multimeter, I determined that wiggling the fuse a little bit while it was fully inserted caused it to start/stop charging sporadically, which would indicate that the metal contacts holding the fuse in place and making the connection have become bent/worn/corroded over time. Unfortunately, since it's all one integrated piece, there isn't an easy way to repair/replace these, so I'll either have to come up with a custom solution (adding solder to the fuse contacts?) or replace the entire unit to keep the toad charged on future trips. If I replace it, I will probably purchase a different make/model, as something like this should last more than a year and a half.

No more dying battery
Whenever we traveled for a long time towing our Subaru we'd get a warning that our Easy Brake's power was low and shortly after would turn off, or after arriving at our day's destination would find the battery was too low to start requiring jumping to move the car. Asked the manufacturer of the Easy Brake (my controller) how to resolve this and they suggested a number of things that either weren't practical or were too complex to bother with. They didn't suggest this product but since it's made by a competitor they may not have known of it (and one of their suggestions actually did wind up doing just what this product was after construction (but wouldn't have been as small and neatly constructed, so buying this was better and far easier). Discovered this device, while browsing the internet. Low cost and quality construction. Installed it per the straight-forward instructions and our battery problems are over. Installation was easy for me (have some experience with wiring and electronics) and should be for most dyi types; otherwise have it installed--shouldn't cost much for that. Bottom line: attach connector when starting trip and remove it when at destination. Battery charges as long as towing vehicle is running.
