>> DOES THE JOB --Earthwise Cordless Rechargeable Grass/Shrub and Hedge Trimmer
The Earthwise Cordless Trimmer works very well for light “touch-up” trimming, with a few minor caveats: GENERAL SHORTCOMINGS AND SOLUTIONS > “Safety Lockout Button” – very annoying, especially since you generally only run the trimmer a few seconds at a time to conserve power. And it is very inconveniently located – impossible to press when holding the trimmer in many orientations – I found myself operating the trimmer “2-handed”, that is holding the trimmer with my right hand and pushing the “safety lockout button” with my left hand every few seconds. My ultimate solution was to jam the “safety lockout button” “on” with a toothpick. > On/Off trigger switch – you have to squeeze VERY hard and hold for the trimmer to operate. After 10 or 15 minutes, it gets very tiring. It really gets bad if you are trying to trim the top of a hedge at shoulder level or higher (because you have to hold the "on" switch on with your thumb). The solution is to use a thick rubber band around the handle to “assist” your grip on the trigger -- just enough to reduce the required pressure sufficiently that it is comfortable to hold in the "on" position. > Power – Underpowered. Cannot cut a woody stem larger than about ⅛" in diameter – so I have to carry my garden shears with me for the occasional thicker stems. If I buy another similar trimmer, it will be a 12volt version (available from Ryobi, etc). GRASS SHEAR HEAD > Works very well. I have used it on a large exora hedge and winter trimming of small branches on my grape vines. Cuts slightly thicker branches than does the hedge trimmer head. HEDGE TRIMMER HEAD > Works well, but not quite as well as the “grass shear head”. Unless you move very slowly, the hedge trimmer head tends to shred and mutilate rather than cut. This is due to the “safety” design of the blade (designed not to cut fingers) – my big Black & Decker 22" hedge trimmer does the same thing. The “grass shear” head does not have this “safety” design, and so, cuts better. Indeed, I found myself using the grass-shear head for trimming my hedge rather than the hedge/scrub head. > For serious trimming a substantial hedge, you still need a big powerful hedge trimmer. But the Earthwise Cordless Trimmer works well for light “touch-up” trimming. Frequent "light touch-up trimming" is probably also much healthier for your plants.

After 26 months
After 26 months the battery life still seems great. It still cuts great even though I have let the cutters develop some corrosion. I think this is a terrific little tool that seems to have withstood the test of time so far. The only thing I did to improve it for my preference is to put a screw in the safety button so that I didn't have to keep it held down.

Works well, but not a fan of the trigger activation buttons
Overall, they do their job. They cut well, are easy to maneuver around and the battery life seems decent. After about an hour of use, I could tell the battery was beginning to lose power. The thing that bothers me the most about this piece of equipment is the way you have to press the button on the side in order to activate the trigger. It is a little awkward. I got used to it after a bit, but still would prefer a different method of trigger activation. I will continue to use the item until it wears out, but I would not purchase it again as I would opt for something that has a battery you can change out and that has a trigger that is easier to activate.

Bestest,
I bought this two years ago. I don’t use it that often, but when I do, it works like a charm. I mainly use it to trim/cut grass and weeds in flower garden. I moved to the south three years ago and am 85 so my outside time is limited. This tool is a Godsend.

Great Tools. Make My LIfe Easier!!!!
This is my second set. I had been using my old set for a couple of years on almost a daily basis in my garden. It was becoming rusted out and had been abused and gotten wet. I knew as soon as my old set stopped working I needed a new set. I think the new set works more smoothly than my old set and came with lubricating oil on the blades which I don't recall having on the prior sets blades. I use these to keep my hedges trimmed since I cannot handle a large hedger. I can get rid of stickers coming up in my garden bed. Trim my rose bushes. It has 2 blades but I prefer the longer blade of the two. It is easy to charge and holds a charge for quite a while. Never had a problem with the battery charge running out before I was done and have used these tools for a couple of hours on occasion. I am extremely particular about my garden and these tools work great for me to achieve the perfection looking for.

Terrific Unit - Battery Replacement Info Needed
This is a pretty nice unit. I've had mine for a few years and it still works well. You have to be careful when it jams,(and it will, with thick stems) because there's a little ball bearing in the mechanism that will escape if you try and take it apart "in the field." My only complaint is the non-replaceable Li-Ion battery. After a year or so the device still works, but you can feel it has no "umph" and needs a new battery. Taking it apart was no problem. Finding a replacement is arduous and so far has failed me. The replacement shows up on the internet....The spec is here: UR18650S, made by Panasonic. I'm not allowed to show the url. A photo is attached. Anyone who might help with this search for a replacement gets a BIG HUG! I would buy this again, but come on manufacturers, at least make the battery replacement available!!

Fabulous!
This is my 2nd one. I severed the charging cord by accident. It’s so easy to keep my shrubs trimmed. Light and easy to use.
