Nice bird bath, but an immediate rust problem

Very easy to assemble it and it looks nice. However, the 3 bird figurines which sit on the side of the basin to help attract birds to the bird bath began to rust in less than a week. I live in a location which is NOT a highly corrosive environment, such as at the sea shore. Consequently, I have to conclude that the finish on the birds decoration is really cheap. It is made of iron with only a very thin coat of paint. I have to wonder how long the finish on the whole bird bath will last. The instructions that came with this product says the finish will fade over a period of time. Judging from how quickly the birds decoration began to rust I was thinking I would need to spray a clear acrylic spray to preserve the finish longer. It's kind of ridiculous that a customer should have to do this so soon after receiving new merchandise. So, I contacted Alpine's customer service department and complained. To their credit they were helpful and responsive about it. They ended up sending to me free of charge a can of clear preservative spray (normally $11). I bought a rust remover and some fine sandpaper to try to remove most of the rust prior to using the acrylic spray. Consequently, I give Alpine's customer service 5 stars for their help and advice. However, fixing an almost immediate rust problem is a hassle the customer should not have to deal with so quickly after receiving a brand new item. I've upgraded the overall rating from 3 stars to 4 stars.

Beautiful, but began rusting within a month

I love the look of this birdbath, and so do the birds! Pros: the deer can knock it over and it won't break, it's very sturdy & beautiful Cons: it rusted almost immediately. Just took this pic at 2 months. :( I just found many reviews saying the same thing. One said, "I contacted Alpine's customer service department and complained. To their credit they were helpful and responsive about it. They ended up sending to me free of charge a can of clear preservative spray (normally $11). I bought a rust remover and some fine sandpaper to try to remove most of the rust prior to using the acrylic spray." So maybe I'll reach out to them as well. I love the birdbath, but it won't be long for this world w/o immediate intervention.

Sturdy, Pretty, Love it.

I looked through a bazillion bird bath options, the one I had was plastic, and would always fall over form wind or squirrels, but this one had really great reviews so I figured I'd try it. When we opened the box my husband thought it seemed chintzy and would be too light and fall over etc. It hasn't fallen over even once. It's sturdy but still lightweight, holds a lot of water, and is really pretty, I love it! I got a solar fountain to keep the water moving but I have to wonder if it scares the birds as I never see them in the water. It's great tho! I highly recommend it.

Beautiful!!

I love this bird bath! I did spray the entire bird bath with the recommended acrylic spray to protect it from rust and the weather. So far it has made it through a beautiful summer and several snow storms and it still looks great! I bought an electric fountain pump from Amazon and it works perfect with my bird bath. I would highly recommend it!

Rusts

Would have given a 5 star, but it is starting to rust where the birds are. It is nice & decorative. Would suggest putting something for the birds to stand on in the birdbath. It is kind of deep.

Beautiful, but began rusting almost immediately and 2 seasons later was full of holes — save your $ and spend slightly more for a bird bath of higher quality and longevity

Stunning and well-made

Attractive -- check! Easy to assembly -- check check! Stands up to wind and rain -- check check check!!! (be sure to seal as recommended in the instructions) Absolutely lovely birdbath that would fit into any garden theme. It has stayed erect with the heavy winds and rains from recent storms. There is no peeling or rusting. I did seal the birdbath with two coats of the type of sealant recommended by the manufacturer. The one thing I wasn't ecstatic about was the price. Although the birdbath looks really nice, the prices was excessive in my opinion.

Beautiful Art for the birds and garden

Gorgeous to look at, easy to clean, holds lots of water and the birds love it. Don't have to worry about it tipping over - it is a solid strong metal structure. Definitely not flimsy. Can stand up to bad weather - even hail stones. Just love it and friends rave how unique and beautiful it is. Big enough to put the solar powered water fountain in it.
