Strong & Compact

I got into kayak fishing back around 2000 (before it became popular) and quickly learned that a potentially good day on the water can be ruined by wind. I bought an anchor that lasted me for years until a friend borrowed it and didn't return it. I got this as a replacement because I've had great experiences with Perception's products (and currently own their Pescador 12.0 yak), and the anchor is good as expected. At 3 pounds, it's very portable and packs down nicely. The galvanized construction is strong enough to engender confidence under just about any conditions. The anchor also comes in a sturdy carry case and includes 30 feet of cord and a plastic cleat (a nice freebie but one that I don't need). Reasonably priced, essential on the water, and good quality. Very happy with it.

The Perception anchor is portable enough to take in any sized kayak. Now that the weather has finally turned to spring, we got a chance to use this anchor on one of our kayaking trips around Boston’s waterways. We use it to anchor in the shallow water off islands (we also tie off one end of the boat to a land-based stake.) Using only the tie-off method, you tend to get a lot of drift whereas the anchor helps stabilize the craft in place in the water. With swells or wind, it’s always more advisable to beach a boat, but this anchor is perfect for little inlets and coves we want to explore without the hassle of bringing up the kayak. We also found it handy with some of the trickier put-ins. Some of our spots feature access via ladders or rocky and irregular terrain where a one-person hold isn't feasible. The anchor offers enough ballast to safety enter and exit the boat. Despite its impressive weight, it’s too small for deep-water anchoring. For our little jaunts in mostly calm waters with sand-and-silt shores, this is the “weigh” to go.

Perfect for my 12ft kayak.

So fun to have! Great kayak anchor for slightly windy days or moving water. We actually do sit in the water to eat lunch or snacks and this easily holds my Old Town Loon 120 so I can simply enjoy my food. Also great for a good fishing spot you really want to cover without drift. It’s not a burden to stow and have onboard routinely at only 4lbs. Everything about it is quality. Storage bag will last.

Excellent with one caveat

We like to take the kayak down a fairly rapid but smooth river not far from the house. We wanted something light to carry on the kayak and this is perfect. Easy to use, this add minimal weight and folds up for storage. There is some roughness that I'd prefer was smoother on the metal itself which is the only complaint. Otherwise, this is a nice design - simple, straightforward and less likely to snag.
