Perfect for helping ensure that people don't trip and fall into sunken rooms in your house and things like that
If you occasionally need stanchions and ropes to cordon off areas at home or in an informal setting, these will get the job done. Whoops! We have a dreadful combination: Hard floors and a part of our living room that's sunken about 8 inches below the rest of the ground floor. That design was all the rage when our house was built in the late 1980s. We've come close to tripping on the step down -- and then one friend did, while carrying a plate of food during a party. Fortunately she wasn't hurt, though the flying food did make a glorious mess. To prevent future occurrences, we purchased this stanchion set, and filled the little plastic bases with water. (If you don't do that, they fall over.) Normally they live in our coat closet. When we have gatherings at our house, we set them up to block most of the access to the living room; there's a little space left for people to step up and down. This makes a great visual cue. The set is made out of cheap plastic and look it, though nobody has been rude enough to comment. (smile) The really cheesy parts are the little plastic slinkie ropes. One could do a lot better going to a hardware store and picking up some brightly color plastic chain, and in fact that's what we did: We bought several 10' lengths of white plastic chain, which looks much nicer than the red slinkies. I wouldn't use these stanchions in an office or any sort of really formal or non-home setting. In those environments, I'd buy or rent nicer-looking stanchions made of metal. To have at home to protect our living room (well, our guest from falling into our living room), these are perfect.

Way over priced for what showed up
Over priced for what showed up! The ‘ropes’ are made of a plastic slinky material. Imagine one long skinny slinky. It was like that. There were no instructions or parts list so I thought I was missing the piece that connects to the ‘rope’ to hook to the stanchion. Because the way the ‘rope’ connects to stand is you take a piece of the end of the slinky and just hook one of the spiral ends to the stanchion which even with water filled in bases made it a fun tug of war type situation. I say ‘fun’ but mean it completely sarcastically for those of you who don’t understand context. This POS was $80. I honestly think $30 would be a lot for it. I was tied to this because unfortunately it was the only one that could get here in time for when I needed to use it. But, if you are shopping around and have time. Save your money. It’s cheap crap inflated in cost because of these ‘supply chain issues’. Which does not give crap an excuse to over charge. Know your place, this is not $80 worth!

NEEDS WEIGHT IN BOTTOM
Needs water or sand in the bottom so is not easy to fill in a convention setting. Looks good and will do just fine for our needs. I will know better after we actually use it! Not bad for the price!

Did the trick
This set worked great for what I needed it for. It was used at my daughter's recent wedding to cordon off the camera we used for the photo booth. The camera was on a tripod in the middle of the floor and we didn't want anyone to trip over it. The stanchions were placed in a square around the tripod and we used ivory ribbon instead of the red rope that was provided. Looked good and worked like a charm. No accidents. We used water in the bases, which made them good and sturdy. Would recommend this product as an affordable alternative to other pricey products, depending on the use. It was fine for our needs but we didn't use it in the traditional way. Probably wouldn't work for a black tie event.

it looked nice and they stand up just fine in wind (YOU ...
Honestly, it looked nice and they stand up just fine in wind (YOU HAVE TO FILL THE BASES WITH WATER PEOPLE!) But... the one thing I didn't see anyone mention is ... they are NOT velvet or velvet-ish ropes! They are not ropes at all... they are giant plastic slinkies... yes... look closely at the picture. They are long, narrow plastic red "spring-like" things. They have a nice weight to them so they do hang nice, and overall the appearance was fine... but when I opened the box I was surprised to see they were just these plastic things... not velvet-like ropes. You've been informed! Best of luck!

worked for our event - but too cheap for a fancy event
The bases work well if filled with water. they are plastic, not "high quality" - wouldn't use for a wedding or anything fancy, but we used them for an outdoor red carpet photo booth. they were perfect! the red rope things were very cheap looking, I bought cloth to cover them but ended up running out of time - but it worked out and they looked great for what we were doing. If you are doing a bday party, photo booth, or some other party they would be great. I wouldn't use them if was a fancy event like a wedding or something like that.
