plastic and steel don't go together but there is no other option

Direct replacement for failed part
Replaced the CAM in a Briggs and Stratton Engine. Engine starts up and runs well. The original CAM Gear slipped on the CAM shaft, this one looks exactly line the original, hopefully it will not have the same failure mechanism. Only time will tell.
