Exactly what it sounds like
I will try to update after long term use, but as of opening, and not really finding much about this online I thought I should describe it. The particle size I would say is a mix between a play sand and a pool filter sand, so it is fine, but not a mud when wet. It does require rinsing, but when you buy clay what can you expect. Fairly uniform in size, not to many large (as in larger than pool filter sand) particles and the smallest that I have after washing is like the fine junk that comes in play sand. I am mixing it with some coarse sand so it fit my application perfectly, time will tell how it handles nutrient uptake but out of the box it is exactly what I expected/hoped. Update, its been a few months and my initial review still stands. The substrate seems to stay relatively stable when moving plants, as in very little comes with the plant if you want to uproot any, it blends with my sand top layer as well so that is a plus. Might have some gas build up because it can get compacted but what do you expect from a clay layer, honestly can't ask for much more. Overall I will get more next tank I set up.

Messy stuff. Hope it's worth it.
I am SOOO glad I read so many reviews of this product. I'm getting a small aquarium ready for planting, and put some Florin Base in a small cup to rinse it. I cannot imagine the nightmare it would have created in my tank if I hadn't just spent 15 minutes filling and rinsing, repeat ad nauseum... Then put it in a strainer to rinse some more. I only used about 3/4 of a cup, and could have re-dirted the pitcher's mound at Safeco Field, with the crud that rinsed out. (I'm not a fan of the new fuschia lights, ergo it shall remain "The Safe" in my mind.) I'm glad that I tried a small amount first, instead of jumping into the whole bag for the big tank. Take EVERYBODY'S advice, and rinse rinse rinse! Here's to those red-tinted plants! May they grow where I put them!

Not too shabby
Not bad. Plants seem to enjoy it and I haven’t had any issues with water or fish at all

Yay for plants!
Put it down under Seachem Flourite. Have Val in the back and they’re growing like river weeds. Ooh wee!

Good Feeder
My fish likes it. Pellets are a little smaller than Hikari’s pellets, which I used to use. I didn’t get dissapointed at all.

Versatile Product!
I actually used this powder to make root capsules for my aquatic plants. Once the powder was dried in the oven I filled up empty gelatin caps to make mineral supplement capsules, since I have an established tank and can't really take it down just to add a layer of laterite to my substrate. It works amazing!! My reds are richer on my tiger lotus and the growth on my jungle val has been insane!
