Feels sturdy, but not sure about weatherproof
The lock itself seems OK. It is covered with plastic and the key hole has a cover to keep rain out. The lock works smoothly enough and feels solid, although it is impossible to know how solid the shank is without trying to use a hack saw on it. I have not had it long enough to check to see if the rain rusts it or not, but will see how it stands up to moisture. While the bottom key hole is covered with a plastic cap there does not seem to be anything to prevent rain from getting into the lock from where the shank joins the lock. Time will tell.

Great lock
I use these to secure items in my truck bed for overlanding. Great lock that feels sturdy and the cover keeps any noise or rattling down. Highly recommend.

Corrosion
I ordered this, needing a lock for my basement bulkhead that wouldn't ice up in winter. It barely fits the hasp, but it does fit and the cap to keep water out is a nice feature, But...its not perfect and there is rust inside the keyhole, and it was slightly frozen yesterday (temps in the teens F). If you purchase one of these, I suggest putting a little WD-40 into the keyhole before using to prevent moisture getting in to start with.

Great for a UHaul trailer
Bought this to lock the UHaul trailer on trip from FLA to MICH. No problems, but my husband lost the key when we arrived in MICH, and once that was found, we were home free. Women - keep the key in your purse and save yourselves grief.

Already corroding
Being a MasterLock, I thought I was purchasing high quality. After being on an outside gate for only a week (with the rubber cap on) the key hole already has corrosion on it.

Nice lock, but not weather/waterproof
This is a nice heavy lock but it's not going to hold up to the weather. This has a cap that goes over the key hole and every time I remove the cap after it rains, a bunch of water comes out. Water is getting inside somehow - presumably through the edges on the shackle, and while the cap may stop water from entering on that end of the lock, it does exactly the opposite for water that enters through the top side of the lock - it holds that water in. Now that I think about it, it may actually hold up in the weather longer WITHOUT the waterproof cap, at least that way the components would have time to dry between rainy days. Nice strong lock but not weatherproof.

Solid and weather resistant
My old lock was getting rusted out, so I thought I better buy a new one before the internal mechanism gets stuck and I have to cut it off. This one is sturdy and well built. The weather resistance feature just means that it's encased in a molded plastic with a plastic cap on the bottom to keep the rain out. I'll have to see how it holds up.

Almost perfect
The only reason this lock gets 4 stars instead of 5 is the U part is a little narrow which makes it difficult to insert the cable to lock my bike. Other than that, perfect! Heavy duty and of great quality.

Useless in cold environments
The good? It's robust. That's a positive right? It sort of ends there though. This is the second Master Lock type lock I've owned. The first is still in use but a change in fence negated a change in locking mechanism and as a result I need a new lock. I figured this one would serve it's purpose but that was a bad assumption. Had I read the reviews I never would've bought this lock. The first one I owned was in use for 7+ years and in that time it froze twice. Both times were during our coldest winters and after several days of severe freezing temperatures. This new lock, in less than 6 weeks and even before winter really kicks in has frozen as many times, both on days where the temp was barely below freezing. In no way is this lock protected from moisture as the product description suggests. This lock is not fit for purpose and if I could return it I would. I have no idea why our previous Master Lock had little issue with extreme cold weather but manufacturing must have taken a big nose dive since we bought our first one.

Not weatherproof
This lock is not weatherproof at all. Every time we go outside to get in the garage the lock is frozen. I bought this lock hoping that I won't have this problem like I do with cheap locks. I do not recommend, it's more problems than what it's worth
