My first impressions
Chapin makes a number of sprayers, and I am never quite quire whether Amazon has mixed them up. This is for the Chapin 60114. I tested this with a gallon of water and got nearly 20 seconds of uninterrupted spray per pumping although it was pretty weak at the end. If your sprayer is only getting four seconds of spray it is either defective or the seals are defective and should be returned. This sprayer has gotten some very good reviews, but I am at the outset less enthusiastic. The wand was preassembled, but getting the cotter pin in the holes for the lever for a 79 year old man with arthritis in his hands was no joke. Even with the aid of pliers and a battery operated headlamp. Even less of a joke was snapping the hooks for the backstraps onto the rails. Tip: I found it easier to snap them onto the bars parallel to the sides and moving them once snapped to their proper location. Easier. Not easy. I do not expect to ever fill this up with four gallons of liquid. I had a two gallon sprayer that I carried in my left hand. And unexpectedly pulled the muscles in my right side. After two weeks, I can bend over and sleep in my own bed, but the first three nights I slept in a lift chair. So I'm hoping with this on my back I can still carry two gallons without doing injury to myself. I do see that some two gallon sprayers come with a shoulder strap. If this proves too cumbersome I will get one of those. Another observation. The hose attaches in the rear. Moving the sprayer around to the front before putting on the backpack makes retrieval a whole lot easier. A hex wrench comes with the package. I believe that would only be used if you were attempting to repair the unit. I expect to have lost it long before I'm tempted to do any do-it-yourself maintenance on the pump. In fact after today, I'm pretty sure it will be gone. I would not recommend this sprayer for anyone for whom hand strength or arthritis in his/her hands is an issue or who would find it physically difficult to pump the handle as frequently as would be required. The pumping handle is conveniently located, and it isn't difficult to use at first, but eventually over time pumping the pressure back up for every 15-20 seconds of spray will build up your muscles in the pumping arm.

Pretty good
Overall, it works like it should. You pump it, and it sprays nicely. My reason for not giving it 5 stars is the backpack straps are wonky, and when the sprayer gets close to empty, and a lot lighter, it gets tricky to pump the handle on it. The backpack wants to move around and not remain in place when it's almost empty. I think that if I can come up with a better way to strap it onto my back, I should be able to fix this, but so far, I'm just dealing with it and getting as much done as I can.

It worked so 4 stars but not quite what I expected
This has to be pressurized nearly constantly, it does not retain a reservoir of pressure like the smaller ones. I found that you must pump it with your primary hand constantly and spray with the other hand. I was expecting it to operate like 98% of the sprayers on the market but that is not the case. However, it did not leak or have any other issues, the constant pumping is not a huge deal, but it might surprise those that are expecting it to spray for 30 - 60 seconds after pressurizing. You will get about 10 seconds at most until the pressure drops to a trickle.

Good Sprayer Except The Pump Handle Was Reversed At Factory
Well made 4 gallon sprayer except that it does not hold pressure like small sprayers. I consider that a good thing, not to blow up tanks or parts. I am a senior citizen with a bad back and alot of yard. Tried all of the 1 gallon ready to go, pump and go, electric want that clogs, etc. This unit is easy to take apart if the nozzle was to ever clog. Just spin off and clean. One received was assembled backwards at their assembly line. So the handle when straight up needed to be pushed backwards in order to pump! I could not get more than a little pump and could not reach behind my back to get a full pump. Contacted the company who provided easy instructions to fix the problem. Remove a cotter pin, 2 bolts, pull out the main rod, flip over and insert from opposite side. Bolts and pin back in fixed it. Now the handle goes from straight up and pumps forward like it is supposed to. Cannot wait to use it again but this time with lots of pressure. Remember to use properly, give it 10 pumps and spray. When the stream slows, give it 4 or 5 pumps. You can twist the front nozzle like a garden hose sprayer to get stream, spray, fan, etc. Well made for the money and I tried 3 gallons first time which covered everywhere I wanted to spray.

Does not work with Roundup Herbicide.
The Roundup clogs the filter. To access the filter, you have to totally take the pump assembly apart. It is a serious pain in the ass to clean the filter. Getting roundup all over yourself in the process.

Quality Control reject?
The discounted one I got seems to be a quality control reject. The straps are mismatched and had to be adjusted. I’m going with 4 stars though assuming it works as it should but should you by it you may have to redo the straps. Or one anyway. It didn’t come with assembly instructions but there are you tube videos to help out.

Bought new, might have received used
Seems like this product was sent back and resold as new. It had liquid (assuming water) in it, and one of the clips for the shoulder straps was broken. It still clips into the bar, but there's only a small piece holding on.

Comfortable
Nice spray pattern and makes quicker work of spraying for weeds compared to 1.5 gallon hand held sprayer.
