best flash light I've ever owned.
Coast HP7R. Photo of a telephone pole at 2am from about 300' My search for a rechargeable flashlight began at Home Depot where I discovered the non rechargeable Coast HP7. Impressed with that ones size and features I figured it don't get no better for the money. Until checking the internet a few days later I did not realize Coast made a rechargeable version. After doing hours of research I ordered the HP7R when I saw it (noting the range is 2x the length of the HP7). When it arrived I gave each cell an initial charge. Then took it outside in daylight to which I was illuminating neighbors license plates at least 500' away better than my big boy Mag Lite. Once it was dark, I noted it's beam distance is at least as long as my Mag Lite, but wider. It lit up a much larger circumfrence just as far away. It'll shine a 1/4 mile easy. It got a little warm after using 10-20 minutes at a time. Not hot though. Flood is nice n wide. Wider than your perifriol (spelling?) vision. No dark shadow in the center like the Mag Lite. I use it at work to light up shadows from flood lights or find ankle twisters on a construction site at night. But being able to light an object at 1000' will come in handy for spotting downed wires and critters lurking in the woods on rural sites. Others have covered the contents of the box...the spare batteries, belt case, cords etc. But folks fail to mention the lanyard (with a Coast insignia). It fits around your wrist ensuring the light will go where you go if you fall or prevent dropping it. Now in a pinch you can temporarily blind your assailant with the mega bright lamp, then with lanyard around your wrist swing the 7oz of pure metal upside their head and run like crazy. Oh, and the charger cord has an attached hook n loop to keep it portable when not in use. Nice touch Coast. Hope I never need the strobe, but glad Coast programmed it 2nd of 3 settings. In a hurry it'll be turned on faster than going to the 3rd setting. I suppose some would prefer 3 light settings (and no strobe) like the non rechargeable HP7. I looked, and looked, and looked on the internet before purchasing the HP7R. Nothing stacked up to the versatility of this light, not even for much more dough. And for the same or less, nothing comes close to the quality, features and portable size. I use my forefinger to turn it on one handed as my hand isn't large enough to do the thumb thing like they do on TV. The focus slides better than the non rechargeable version and lock stays better. The big "C" on the rubberized on/off switch is kinda cool along with the subdued Coast emblem on the side. It was show n tell night on my construction site tonight when I used the little light to light up some shadows to help workers see better. Too bad this thing isn't American made. Because this may be the worlds best rechargeable flashlight. And I've had some good ones. Thanks for reading.

Incredible flashlight
This flashlight is unbelievable! I bought this primarily for light painting and found it almost too bright for that, though you can use it on low beam or with colored filters, which are nice. Working under the house with it was almost like working in daylight. I can focus it on a hill almost a half mile away and distinctly see a dim light on the hill. Battery charges last forever. I have recharged once in a year. Granted I don't use it that much, but this shows how it holds a charge. Two things that could be better: 1) The charge port at the base of the flashlight is almost impossible to use. It says to twist an 8th of a turn and pull, but it just unscrews the battery compartment. I have pulled so hard I worry about damaging something. Managed to find the sweet spot only once despite dozens of tries. I just charge the battery outside of the flashlight. 2) I wish you could go to low beam without cycling through high beam and flasher first. Other than those minor issues it is a great light. Highly recommend.

Great light - 8 year Heavy duty Mechanic
Streamlight who? As a heavy duty diesel mechanic of 8 years (most spent working 3rd shift in very dim environments) flashlights are a wierd thing I seem to purchase to many of. Have always used streamlight products and decided to give Coast lights a try after borrowing a coworker's penlight HP3R (also have since purchased and recommend) this light has impressed me and has stood up to the daily abuse of being used by diesel mechanic. The adjustable beam is great, the battery life is awesome and complimented by the passthrough charging built into the housing. No there is not a piggyback option like streamlight (which is ignored since there a passthrough charge port as previously mentioned) small enough to keep in a drawer or a belt loop holster. I keep mine in my pocket with much less annoyance compared to my Streamlight Stinger (although the smaller strion would be a more fair comparison for pocketable flashlights)

The Coast HP7R is a great quality flashlight
The Coast HP7R is a great quality flashlight. This flashlight is some next level flashlight. The package comes with 2 rechargeable cells, a battery pack that holds 4 AAA batteries, a holster and some mounting gadgets. The rechargeable cells give about 7 plus hours of burn time a 300 lumens and the 4 AAA gives about 2 plus hours at nearly 300 lumens. If you YouTube some of the reviews you will be able to view the unit. I am glad I bought this flashlight. Although, I thought I would be able to charge AAA batteries with the battery pack and you cant. I charge this flashlight with a portable solar panel as a backpackers set-up. So the hope was save ounces for head lamps recharges. I would have given a 5 star, but the not being able to recharge AAA batteries caused some rethinks. As they say though your never out of power with the Coast HP7R. Great quality flashlight with longevity in mind.

Build quality
I see a lot of people beating this flashlight up. I just wanted so say I use this and another flashlight all the time. Same battery for 5 years and I think my other one is older. Love them. Dropped multiple time, been in the creek, lake u name it. Awesome flashlight and batteries. I’m sure there are some defects from time to time just like anything but I hit a home run with my two.
