This jacket keeps you from feeling cold, rather than 'keeps you warm' in cold weather
So - the pictures showing some guy on a mountaintop wearing this thing might be a little misleading. I live in the city of Chicago; bought this jacket about a month ago (November 2019) when the temperatures were dipping sub-40 F. I'm the type of person who doesn't easily get cold (even though I grew up in Southern California) and wearing this jacket (Columbia Mens Voodoo Falls 590 Turbodown Jacket in Blue) above about 60 F makes you very warm very quickly - on par with one of my much heavier jackets. To see how this compares, I wore this jacket with and without a sub-fleece jacket (over normal clothes which ranged from a cotton T-shirt, and under-armour athletic T-shirt, and business clothes - in weather hovering around freezing (32 F plus or minus 10 degrees F to account for day to day variations and wind chill). I wore this while walking the dog, walking to work, getting in and out of cars, etc. - relatively short excursions where you are exposed to the cold weather for around 30 minutes. Surprisingly, wearing the fleece coat under this jacket didn't seem to make a whole lot of difference in warmth. After trying this with and without the fleece layer several times to make sure it seemed consistent, I ditched the fleece layer and just wore the jacket over a T-shirt. If it got especially cold or windy, the hood provided an added layer of warmth. While the jacket seemed to do it's advertised job well, I wasn't particularly warm while wearing the jacket in this weather/temperature range. While I wasn't cold (meaning that I was close to shivering), I wasn't warm either. The reflective feature inside seemed to help quite a bit (not much difference between the fleece and no-fleece caused by reflection your radiated heat back - whereas with the fleece, there probably wasn't much heat to reflect). It is very lightweight, which makes it ideal for travel ( I haven't tested stuffing it into a backpack to see if feathers pop out - so far I've only see one feather unit(?) appear in the last month. I'd also say, while it probably does its best job of keeping you warm and toasty in the temperature range of 40 - 50 F, it's probably not suitable for much colder temperatures (such as on a mountain top), based on my limited experiments. Now that may be different if you are continuously moving and generating excess heat - I'm talking about 'taking it easy'.

Comfortable and looks good, but not very warm
Not as warm as I was hoping to be honest. Given the Omni-heat technology I expected it to be a really warm jacket that would be useful on winter hikes, but I'm a little chilly still even in just 30 degree weather with two layers underneath. Jacket is very comfortable and stylish though, and will work nicely for fall/early spring.

Insulated, yes. Down insulation, sort of.......
Fitting is decent. At 6ft, 160lb and slim build, the SMALL is a good fit. Sleeve cuffs and neck are is a little loose. I wish the elastic was tighter on the cuffs. Insulation is a little misleading. This jacket is marketed as "590 turbodown". What this means is that the insulation is 15% down and 85% polyester. From the feel of the jacket, I would presume the down is 590 fill power. This offset of poly to down fill means the jacket is heavier than a jacket that is 100% down at 590 fill power. The omni-heat works to keep warmth close to your body. But it also feels like its sticking to my arms. Id only wear this jacket with a long sleeve shirt beneath.

Great warmth.
Worked great walking around at about 26F with light wind. Was sweating doing snow activities at 18F. I combined it with a beanie (North Face Salty Dog I also love), undershirt, and regular long sleeve shirt. (EDIT: I have now worn this jacket in 12F with a strong wind, and it was fine. I was sweating running up a snow hill.) It's a bit thinner than it looks in pictures. It's not poofy at all which is great. The lining is very sparkly so if you're going for fashion this maybe isn't for you. Deep Blue color is a few shades darker than it looks in the well lit photos. Pockets and storage felt adequate. One on each side in the front with zipper and zipper interior pocket. The zippers could be a bit more substantial for using with gloved hands. Makes me wonder when you would need a thicker jacket. Antarctica?

Great, comfortable Jacket for cold weather
I'm a Columbia fan. I have a couple of Columbia jackets and so I was not too concerned with the quality of what I was getting. It is a great coat. There are two things that I would note. One is that the smaller down leaks out a bit. Nothing major but it is noticeable on my car seats. The other is that there are no sinch cords for the hood so there is no way to draw the hood in around your face. Otherwise, it is a very warm and practical jacket and much warmer than I thought for a 550

Good jacket, but looses feathers
Beautiful jacket, warm and light. The only issue is that after using it you'll end up with a lot of feather all over your sweater. Anyway, I bought it with a heavy discount (only 66 bucks) so it was worth it.

Just what I was looking for
This thing rocks! It isn't a winter jacket by any means if you live in a snowy state, but it works great even in the low 30s, especially with layers beneath. It is also very water resistant, as I have biked in the rain without the inside getting wet. The sleeves are tapered at the end so they keep heat in and fit snuggly around gloves. It is soft, warm, comfortable, and fits me well. The only drawback, which I saw in another comment before buying, is that the pockets are that material that sticks to the dead skin on your hands. This isn't that big of a deal, but it is something to note. Highlights: Warm Soft Versatile Light and packable Water resistant (not water proof) Attractive Fits Well

More warm than it seems
When I received it, I seemed too thin to meet my expectations of shelter. I was wrong. With a rather cool temperature, about 12 degrees Celsius, as time passed, increased the sensation of heat to even more than necessary. It was to be used in long periods, with lower temperatures. Well prepared, at least mine, copper colored, has not lost a single feather, in size as expected, and only the color that was darker than the published, but also nice.

Horrible Stench!
After wearing the jacket one time, there was a horrible stench, similar to a wet dog. It was coming from the down insulation. I tried everything possible to get rid of the smell, but it still remains. Wish I had of returned it instead. Now I'm left with a jacket that is unwearable. If it wasn't for the smell, I would have recommended the jacket.

Great Jacket
Looking for an oversized and comfortable jacket then this is it. Keeps cold and wind out and weighs not much more than a feather. Finding a coat to fit for a big man is hard but this one in 4x was perfect. The hood works well.
